Typical heart rate monitor strap lifespan?

:open_mouth: I was going to order one circa 11 months ago but they were out of stock everywhere and I ended up with a CooSpo; looks like I had a lucky escape.

I have had the same CooSpo monitor for almost 2 years. I rinse the strap in the sink and wipe the monitor off with a moist towel after every ride. I have replaced the battery twice. I did not expect it to last this long considering how cheap it was.

I bought the Polar H10 shortly after, and it’s been great. Yes, the strap is washable – I have done so every week or so.

Never had any issues with it so far! Replaced battery 2 times.

My Wahoo HR only is good for 1 year before starts to crap out. So every year a drop about 40-50 dlls on a new HR strap. I keep buying Wahoo…I don’t know why…LOL

Wahoo will often replace your TICKR. Reach out to them if you have time to wait. I swear they almost always die at about a year.

I finally gave up on them and bought a Garmin Dual and I’ve been happy with it so far, but only had it 6 months now.

You need to check if the Gen 2 has the newest strap. When I first got my gen 2, it had smooth-ish sensor pads (Nov '20). It flaked out after ~3 months. Wahoo support sent me a new strap, this has more of a cross-hatched look on the sensor pad. Too new to tell if it addresses all the issues.

The first round of straps for the Gen 2 were definitely problematic, as I went through 2 of them, before realizing the strap was the issue, not the HRM.

My wahoo tickr lasted just over 3 years.

Washed it (rinsed the strap under a tap rather than in a machine then air dried) after every ride.

Started to play up a little (drop outs mainly) around January this year, despite using a new battery, so I switched to the Wattbike strap that came with my Wattbike atom.

Both straps needed the rubber terminals wetting slightly to make them work well.

No issues so far with the Wattbike one.

Im ordered yet another HRM. I may have the life spans wrong, except for the first and last ones.
My first Garmin Hard strap lasted 6 years (although I rarely used a trainer);
A soft strap garmin lasted about a 1.5 years
A BBB lasted about 1.5 years (I started training in its lifetime)
A Stages Dash lasted about 2 weeks, replaced on warranty and that lasted for 3 months
Decatlon dual HRM lasted about 2.5 years (new straps)
I wanted it again but it was sold out, so I looked at the TickR but it was sold out too. So I ended up with a CooSpo which lasted about 2 years (with a new strap).
When it failed I wanted another Decathlon one but it was again sold out, so I ended up with a TickR. The Tickr lasted 1.75 years before its battery spring started failing. Not wanting to throw things away into the environment I got a few more weeks out of it with a piece of old inner tube behind the battery. Unfortunately that let sweat in and its been gradually intermittent, then yesterday it only gave me 5 mins of data from an hours TT.
It’ll hopefully be replaced under warranty but Ive decided to go with a Polar H10. The garmin Tri looked good but I couldn’t really justify the cost.

I bought two of these and so far they have been the most hard wearing straps I have owned.

My sweat really does eat through official garmin and kickr straps - usually only last 6 months or so.

I’m using a garmin dual sensor thats probably 3 years old now - all the screws are broken so its held together with electrical tape but works fine

3 months ago, I got a cheap ($9) off-brand strap from amazon and put my Garmin transmitter on it. It’s been working flawlessly. I keep the Garmin strap as a backup now, since it doesn’t perform 100% reliably. Plus, the Garmin strap smells and this one doesn’t (just rinse off in sink after each ride, and throw in washer once a month).
