Trek's 30 Year disruption (WaveCel Helmets)

Short review of the Wavecel XXX based on ~5 rides, one of which was 8 hours in and another which was 6 hours in 75-80-degree-ish weather:

  • People are right to be concerned about ventilation. I can’t say for sure, but I think it was a tad warmer than I would have been otherwise. But the difference is not humongous. Maybe it would have been more in 90+ degree weather.
  • The extra weight is only noticeable if you switch between this and a non-Wavecel helmet immediately. Didn’t bother me at all.
  • The fit is different for sure than, say, the Ballista. Not sure if I’d say it’s more uncomfortable. The boa in the back can dig into the head but there is a mechanism to shift it up and down, so if you try it on at the shop try moving that around to see if it is more comfortable. This is most noticeable when you are looking “up” relative to your torso.
