Trek Madone Gen 8 (2025)

They do this all the time. My local TREK store had on display and let me buy a Gen 7 SL but I wasn’t allowed to take delivery until a few days later when the official release hit, they wouldn’t even open the box to let me see the color (I got plasma gray, they displayed the red)

If a bike performs well, I’m generally indifferent to bike styling unless something is blatantly ugly. The current and new madone is in that territory for me. Never a fan of the weird seat portal and I’d say the Gen 8 is a step backwards overall in styling.

My road bike is a ~2016 aero madone, before disk brakes and the one that has those crazy little doors/flaps over the front brakes. I haven’t done a road race in years, but it’s still a crazy capable bike and I’ve got no plans to replace it. Probably my favorite bike I’ve owned and much better looking than the new ones (in my opinion).

I have an ongoing warranty claim for my Gen 7 SL. Two weeks ago, I received a call informing me that they can provide me with a Gen 8 SLR because they are discontinuing the Gen 7. I am a little bummed out as I agree that the Gen 7 has a much nicer frame. I can’t complain though, an upgrade to an SLR is more than welcomed. :joy:

What happened with your SL? I was upgraded to a Gen 7 SLR with mine, glad I got it when I did

Paint issues… I got to see the whole catalog early at my LBS. I chose the SLR “carbon red smoke” colour. I also own an emonda so it makes me question its existence in my roster now haha

Yea paint problems here as well. I did pay to step up to the SLR so you’re getting a better deal, but I wouldn’t be very happy if they tried to stick me with a Gen 8 even for free

The Gen 8 is growing on me + a new carbon layout sounds great. The lower spec versions look horrible though. I had to pay a difference too, but nothing crazy (esp when seeing these new prices lol)

Mine was $800 which was the difference between the SL and SLR frameset. I snagged all the SLR cockpit bits for $350 and upgraded out of my Pro51 wheels to RSL for another 350. All in I’m under $7,500 for an $11k spec Gen7 SLR in an amazing color (no dura ace bling) What color are you going with?

I don’t think the Gen 8 is bad by any means it’s just not as striking as a Gen 7. Still prefer it over the SL8 by far, and the SSE looks better but I still don’t like dropped stays

They’ve been selling already ahead of the announcement for weeks. You can order one. My LBS mechanic has already sold 3 of the SL’s.

Nice! I’m getting this bad boy. I prefer a two-piece cockpit so I’m content with the stock build.

I like the 8, but really love the look of the 7. I’m biased though. If you don’t have a 7, the 8 looks to be a great all arounder.

This guy also has a Madone Gen 8:

The stupid bike is stupid heavy. It’s supposed to replace the climber Emonda whilst possibly being less aero than the current Gen 7 Madone?

Try opening this link to Trek Switzerland in incognito:

This nice redditor compiled specs and weight:

I predict an embargo lift in the morning as I’ve seen many people post the new bike online today

That’s the Rival version though. I’m not a Madone fan, so don’t take this as me being overprotective, but that could explain a lot of the weight. Is it a lot heavier than the Rival Madone or Emonda?

So is this bike heavier than the Emonda and less aero than the current Madone?

They claim 77 seconds faster than emonda and 320g lighter than Madone. Meh sounds like a bad compromise

I wouldn’t be surprised if most of the aero gain over the current Emonda is coming from the new handlebars and bottle cages. Realistically it’s probably a great bike, but it just seems like if you owned either the current generation Emonda or Madone you wouldn’t be rushing out to pick up this new model.

It’s mainly the bottle cages and bottle system from one of the engineers I spoke with. You need the bottles to even get close to the gen 7 Madone.
