Should I blindly follow trainnow recommendations week in week? Or should I purposely take every 3rd/4th week as recovery and manually select “endurance “ for a week?
Well most people are best served by a de-load week every 3-4 weeks, so if you’re mimicking plan builder without a plan, yes, a low volume endurance week would probably be a good idea every 3-4 weeks.
+1.
This comes up a lot and the response is always that train now is good for today. It doesn’t “look forward” so if you are looking for something like that plan builder is probably best.
I would say that is almost never a good idea to blindly do anything, even when following a plan… TrainNow takes in consideration your training history but leaves it to the user to allow for regeneration/recovery when needed. A couple of easy days can be enough every now and then if a complete week seems excessive; it’s basically up to the user to judge.
It sounds like we’re on the right track here. ![]()
As @Jolyzara mentioned, TrainNow is great at recommending a good workout for today. It does know if you need to rest based on your recent training stress, but it doesn’t keep track of periodization or training cycles. This means that it won’t plan out rest weeks for you and will only recommend rest or easy days if you’ve had enough stress in the past day or two to warrant it.
We recommend following a periodized training cycle in order to sustainably get faster, so you’ll either need to keep track of your rest weeks yourself if you’re exclusively using TrainNow or get on a custom training plan.
Makes sense.
The recommendations certainly drop significantly after 3 weeks of buid anyway.
I had planned a easy week this week and Train Now was recommending level 1 -2 climbing workouts
(Current threshold PL 6.9)
I’ve just been selecting “endurance” and using alternates to change level to recovery
I think this is a miss.
Often on the podcast they talk about starting on low volume and adding days as you see fit vs jumping into mid-volume.
Let’s say I’ve just had my long-ish Saturday ride and want to throw in 60 mins on Sunday. This seems like a great use case for Train Now. It should look at my plan/schedule and give me something to add into the existing mix. Otherwise, how do I find a workout to do when time/recovery permits?
