Training Plan Flexibility & Red Light Green Light for Running

The season has come to an end, and after a much-needed rest, I’m now motivated to start training again! I’ve got a few questions.

  • I’ve created my plan using the “Create a Custom Plan” tool, and it’s set to start next week. My A event is scheduled for June 23, but before that, I have a couple of B and C events I’d like to add later. However, my local cycling body and clubs won’t be releasing the events and race calendar until January or February. I’d still want some flexibility in my plan, so that I can add these events once the schedule is released. Will I be able to edit the plan a few months into it to add events, and will the training schedule adjust accordingly?

  • I’m new to running and hiking, and I’ve encountered an issue where RLGL (Red Light Green Light Feature) seems to work well with cycling activities (both indoors and outdoors) but doesn’t appear to work for me with running. Last week, I did an 8km run + walk after 13 days off, and the next day my body was sore. I expected to see a red day on my calendar, but all I saw was a “green” day. Is there something I need to enable to make RLGL work for running as well?

Looking forward to your responses.

Hey @ChainDriven! So good to hear you’re ready to get back to training!

  • You can add events to Plan Builder along the way, and the plan will recalculate to take them into account
  • RLGL takes into account all activities, so there’s nothing you need to enable. The runs are accounted for! As far as the soreness goes, this is normal after taking some time off. I am a runner as well, and it takes a few runs to get the muscles accustomed again, much like when we get on the bike after time off and experience the good old saddle soreness  All this goes without saying that you know your body best, and if you feel you need to take it easy or rest then, by all means, feel free to do so.

Thank you for your response!

I will keep an eye on my calendar as to how RLGL responds to runs. So far, I haven’t even observed a single yellow/red day after running though.
