Trainerroad automatically adapted my plan and I did not want this

For the first time that I’m aware of, Trainerroad adapted my training plan without offering me an adaptation or asking for my approval. This morning (Wednesday) I noticed that my ride for Thursday was sweet spot 3.2 rather than the sweet spot 7.2 that was in that slot when I last saw it yesterday. I also got an email notification at 12:01am (when I was definitely asleep) that my training plan had been adaped for this morning’s ride (no mention of tomorrow). I did not accept any adaptations yesterday or in the past week.

I do not want this. I always want to approve adaptations. Is this a bug or some new feature that was turned on. I want to turn it off.

Can someone shed some light on this?

Tom

Hey @tobogranyte

You can turn the auto adaptations off from your Account>>Settings>>Adaptive Training.

Is this new? All the setting says is “Adapt workouts.” I have always used adaptive training, and have always adapted my workouts. But it has always asked me to approve an adaptation first. Can you explain?

In the web app (not mobile) there is a toggle for auto-accept of adaptations. Be sure that is turned off.

Yes  This is new!

However, this has only been automatically enabled for athletes who are new signups or have renewed after February 10, 2024, and have connected to Zwift.

It looks like you met the criteria of renewal after Feb 10th and are connected to Zwift.

Existing athletes can enable this manually in their Account Settings:

  • Account → Settings → Adaptive Training → Automatically Accept Adaptations

Thanks. For what it’s worth, you really shouldn’t be changing settings like that. I understand why it would seem sensible to do that for people who have done the Zwift integration as I suspect those folks might not have the opportunity to see adaptation requests if they’re just using the Zwift app. But for my part, after trying the Zwift integration, I decided not to use it. Erg mode is too unreliable in Zwift compared to TrainerRoad. So is still use TR for my workouts.

Can you expand on this? I’ve been using ERG mode in Zwift for all of my TR workouts and have not noticed any issues.

I can definitely see where you are coming from  I’ll bring this feedback to the team!

And as @NigelTufnel11 mentioned, can you expand on ERG Mode?

A few things to note:

  • ERG behavior may feel slightly different than in TrainerRoad. Power targets are rounded to the nearest watt rather than the nearest 5 watts.
  • You may notice small power fluctuations from drafting effects. This is normal Zwift behavior and won’t significantly impact your training.
  • Zwift’s power transitions are more gradual than TrainerRoad’s. This is normal and won’t significantly impact your workout quality.
