Apologies I found the toggle/edit, it’s on the web app calendar on the actual prediction.
Have also turned off ‘fatigue prediction’ – because it’s harder to override in the update. Sometimes I might want to do 45 mins of endurance for mental health reasons and am not bothered about marginal effect on my training metrics.
Beginning to think about returning to Zwift, this new update has made the app more complex and over layered.
How is the new AI system calculating TSS? Just did a recovery ride that came out at 33 TSS on TR using my new wildly inflated AIFTP. However, on Garmin connect with my old FTP the ride was also 33. Any ideas?
Update: that unstructured outdoor rides now appear to feed into ‘progression levels’ is a major upgrade IMHO. No longer thinking about returning to Zwift!
FTP was 244 after a 20 minute test 3 weeks ago. AI FTP set to 222 projected to be 238 in 28 days.
I can live with that and I have adjusted my FTP in other platforms to 222.
First day of the plan was 75 TSS dynamic ride up to 2.5 hours. Co-incidentally did exactly 75 TSS but in 90 minutes or so.
AI FTP now dropped to 228. Not the end of the world but odd to say the least. I do suspect that it thinks I am tired. However I am retired and train most days. I am looking for an increasing FTP but I dont race or even ride outside so it is not that important to me.
It’s going to be very interesting in 3 to 4 weeks time when this first batch of predictions will be put to the test. So far, I’ve seen complaints about predictions being too low (or even decreasing) and too high. Not sure that both of those things can be right at once, but time will tell.
I really want the prediction element of this update to work. It should help resolve a problem I’ve had for years where FTP goes down during summer unstructured riding by allowing me to see what I need to do to change that. For now though, I’m reserving judgement on how valuable the current tool is. In the meantime, I’m happy that appropriate workouts are being served up to me, and I’ll continue to use TR predominantly as a workout player controlling my trainer.
I would think it can both under- and over-estimate for different people quite easily. It is, after all, based on a set of assumptions/recommendations as to what any individual will/will not do over a period of four weeks, and not all of those things will come to pass.
It’s a prediction, and will change over the course of the four weeks. It’s not set in stone.
The prediction has to be close for it to be valuable. I’m treating it as a curiosity for now. I have my own expectations as to what improvements I’m likely to get from a training block. Expectations based on many years of following broadly similar plans. So far in my own experiments, I’ve been given predictions that flip from wildly optimistic to actual decreases with minimal changes to the plan.
If the prediction feature doesn’t work, then I can turn it off or ignore it, but two improvements I would like to see: 1) ability to change the prediction date, 2) a ‘test’ calendar to play around in before committing any changes to my live calendar.
I also tried around what gives me the highest prediction: A lot of high-intensity workouts (and less easy rides), also skip parts of the easy week. I don‘t think I will complete these without problem, but let‘s see, maybe I underestimate myself.
Agreed. They were both suggested in beta - the first was certainly talked about as a future feature by TR staff, the second didn’t seem to elicit a response that I remember. I’ve been using screenshots of the original state before I play around so I can put everything back.
The app will not use the manually entered FTP. I changed the FTO manually but the app offered no workouts. I had a choice to accept the AI prediction or do a ramp test. I don’t want to do a ramp test.
Ok, this I see, thanks. But it still shows some weird thing in the calendar - the AI Training Simulation prediction window - how to disable and remove this ?
You can turn off the fatigue detection on the web interface under account settings. That will stop the system from automatically adapting your workout. But you can turn off the color coding. You just have to ignore it, but the color wont change anything about the workout. Hope that helps.
