After a solid 2-hour workout, TrainerRoad reduced my score because it detected a 2.5-minute pause — but I never actually paused. The app never cut out, I’m using a Kickr smart trainer, and I didn’t have any connectivity issues or did any backpedaling.
Even if I had stopped briefly (which I didn’t), I’m surprised it would adjust my score that much. It’s not a huge deal, but since the score affects future workouts, it caught my attention.
I too have seen this message, but I actually did pause for about 90 seconds during the warmup to adjust the height of my seat which had slid down slightly.
TR has openly said that pauses affect how the workout is scored. The issue the OP has is he didn’t pause but still got the message and reduced scoring. This should be brought up through proper support channel.
I’m seeing this notice in the context where I’m 20 seconds from the workout finish and I pause quickly to get off and add 5 minutes of additional cool down time. Wondering if the score reduction is contextually aware.
How long are you getting off the bike for? I’ve hopped off after 10 minutes to turn fans on as quickly as possible and then get right back on. In those instances I haven’t seen any reductions.
I had 20 seconds left in the ride and it took me 30 seconds to hop off and back on and add the extra 5 minutes to cool down according to TR. You can see it in the workout trace at the very end.
I have had the same issue. Using rollers I take a break every 30-45 minutes to give me arse a break and get a drink of water. Never had the pause warning until about a week ago. Only change is I am using Assioma power meter rather than Virtual power for the last month.
I did Lion Rock the other day and it rated 2.8 out of 3.0 for threshold and didn’t even say why. I paused briefly within the first few minutes of warm up to adjust a fan but it couldn’t have been more than 15-20 seconds if I’m remembering correctly. I had no pauses the rest of the ride. I submitted a ticket to support and just waiting to hear back, I’m just curious if there’s something I did to receive a lower threshold rating so I can avoid it in the future
If i’m a betting man, I’d say you got a lower score due to the underperformance of those initial spikes at around the 10 min mark in your workout. Looking at the workout as prescribed in the library (see below), it has those spikes well above threshold level, but your screenshot from your workout indicates you were a bit under threshold on those efforts.
Could be.. those were 6-second sprints with ERG mode so the power didn’t really hit the target until the 6 seconds were done. I didn’t think that would affect the threshold scoring but I’ll be curious to see what TR support has to say either way. I’m not sure how to avoid it if that’s what happened, I guess ERG mode off for the shorter efforts.
The reduction is in the threshold score, so I’m guessing it’s in the actual threshold intervals. variations of .1 & .2 in the resultant level is pretty common for erg mode workouts. We get bigger variations using resistance mode.
