Hi there! I recently started using Trainerroad after following the podcasts for a quite long time. In general, I’m happy so far, but a few things popped up and I wondered whether anyone has insights why.
Namely, I’m currently in the midst of a training plan. I will be on holiday and unable to train for two weeks from end of April, and I set this absence in my training calendar. Now, what I expected or hoped that would happen is that trainerroad would arrange my training and especially rest schedule around that, but at the moment it looks like I’m on a recovery week with just one workout the week before my trip, resulting in a total of three weeks without meaningful training. Is this intended? I would have expected/hoped that TR would shift any recovery period into the two weeks I’m off anyways.
And second small and unrelated question: on one of the recent days in my calendar I had two relatively hard trainings recommended on the same day (see attachment). Not in the either/or orientation when TR suggests a different training, but really two on the same day. Is that intended?
BR and keep up the good work,
Alex
The time off thing is a little annoying. As it seems to assume that time off is not rest/recovery time so it just carries on the regular training blocks either side of it. There might well be cases where a week off is not recovery (e.g. A work trip involving long haul travel, jet lag, stress, etc). But it would be useful to be able to differentiate, or to be able to choose where to place Recovery Weeks and then have it plan around them. What I end up doing is either changing the A race date (if it’s not a real A race and just an arbitrary date to work towards) so that a recovery work naturally falls onto a week where I can’t train (but won’t be stressed). Or just manually drag workouts around or add them to accommodate it. If recovery week is falling right before your time off then one option for example would be to simply extend your training block by another week by adding in a couple of hard workouts (pick the same type and duration as the week before and then let AI choose the workout). Or if you think 4 hard weeks in a row is too much then can go back earlier in the plan and rejig it e.g. A couple of blocks where you do 2 weeks and 1 week recovery.
I’ve never seen it schedule 2 hard workouts in one day so definitely not intentional. You sure you didn’t accidentally add one of them on yourself?
Thanks for the reply… I’ll handle it like you suggested, but as you mention, it would be cool if there were a option to tell the system to treat (some) time off as recovery.
Regarding the double feature, I’m as sure as I can be that I didn’t put in the additional workout myself. I don’t know, is this what it looks like when the system offers two different workouts of different intensity types (i.e., threshold and sweet spot)? At least this is what I treated it as, but it did leave a slight taste of non-completion disappointment
So far I’ve only seen the “I suggest you go longer” version for the same type of workout or the “rest recommended” overlay.
Hey @Timeless
Welcome to the forum!!
Recovery Weeks are fixed, so as @cartsman mentioned, you will have to adjust this manually.
However, it sounds like the issue is that the issue is just on this week:
“…at the moment it looks like I’m on a recovery week with just one workout the week before my trip”
You can always manually add AI Workouts before your trip so you don’t have just one workout.
For your second question, did you by chance move a future workout to the 26th on that week? This could be it.
