Estimate for TP’s numbers:

in the rain, in the Col de Romme intermediate (8 .52 km, 9.37 %) in 26’40 "1st or 444 Watts Etalon, ~ 6.3 watts / kg 19.9 km / h on average for 8.52 km at 9.37%!

So the real question: Does the green jersey group

  • Make the cutoff (or given its size, the race jury keeps everyone in)?
  • Doesn’t make the time cut, and everyone in it is eliminated?

They are not even showing gaps anymore, But given they had already 15 minutes at the bottom of the third last climb, and how fast Pog is going, it seems impossible they make the cut.

Yes - MVDP is almost 15 minutes, so the green jersey group is probably 30+ already. My guess is that the race jury keeps the entire group in the race. Otherwise, we’d be down to <100 riders, and no one really going for the green jersey.

On The Move, Johann Bruyneel was talking about how the cutoff use to be stricter, but riders who would get dropped would bunch together, and the organizers weren’t going to cut 40-50 riders, so they have got more lenient in order to preserve the peloton, because that would be a really bad look by the time they got to Paris.

It’s a good podcast. Lance is a total meathead, but George Hincapie and Johan are worth it. Johan has his own episode each day if you just want to skip to that on Spotify (The Move JB2).

Oh did they rejoin with a bigger group? In that case they might be safe. I thought it was just the four lone dudes.

No - when I started watching way too early this morning - Pacific Time - there was already a large grupetto / green jersey group. Besides Cav & G, Sagan was in it, and it looked to be at least 30 - 40 riders. And it was growing - when Rog dropped off the front group / peloton, he dropped into the green jersey / grupetto

Imagine being so strong that you can singlehandedly eliminate 50 riders because of time cuts…

It use to happen more often though… I think the fields are overall stronger now than they use to be.

It must be so weird for Froome. On the one hand he must be pretty happy to be able to ride in the first place, but on the other hand he used to be in Pogs position, dominating everyone and now he is at the exact opposite end of the race.

He wanted it more.

Time cut is 37’ 32"

At least that’s what the announcer’s calculated it as

He’s just unbelievable. That was incredible. And he’s only 22.

They’re not going to cut all the sprinters if they come across after.
