Tour de France 2021! (spoilers)

1,000,000,000% agree…

Every time there’s a new break out rider, there’s always the ‘is he/she going to be GC?’

MVDP wins MTB races, cyclocross races, short tours, one day classics, stages in the grand tours… is that not enough?

People want him to diet down to some microscopic shell of himself so he can ride GC?

Please don’t listen to any of these people MVDP. I and many others are very happy with your riding style

Ok, I just googled. For some reason I was sure I’d read he was significantly heavier than the 75kg he’s listed as. Apologies.

I still stand by the rest of my post, and agree with you, I definitely wouldn’t want to see him do it. I don’t think he’d end up very good at GC, and would almost certainly take away from his abilities elsewhere. Why give up being the very best in something to be average in another.

I reckon he’d have a better chance having a crack at the Green Jersey if there were a year with “lumpy” sprint stages.

On that note, isn’t it funny how people like to complain about the Green. Back when Cav first started winning they changed the system because everyone complained that it favoured the sprinters. Then they changed it to favour the sprinters because Sagan kept winning it by disappearing up the road. Now I hear more complaining that it favours the sprinters too much :man_facepalming:.

Imagine if he hits 35 in Paris :exploding_head:

(In interviews he doesn’t seem 100% confident to make it through the mountains)

Johan Bruyneel touched on it in today’s JB² podcast, but it’s an interesting idea to think if Cav would have had the conditioning for a TdF. He wasn’t planning on racing it until right before.

Obviously he’s still a world class cyclist with a bunch of aerobic conditioning, but still, there’s something there.

Even if Cav DNFs over the weekend, he has more than proven himself. Pretty amazing.

First test of Pog’s team, they are currently failing, Let’s hope Ineos doesn’t bail them out! (or anyone else for that matter)

This is excellent. With such a big breakaway it is not possible for one team to control the gap. At least not if the breakaway actually works together.
Sagan seemed to have missed the break? His green Jersey ambitions are starting to fall apart a little bit. He can only hope that most of the sprinters fail to reach Paris.

Another fun day at the office

Jumbo and Ineos just lost the standoff!

With a break this big and with so much star power, we have a really good stew brewing for the day. Lots of motivation and tactics to follow. Really surprised to see Ineos and Jumbo on the front as we hit the climbs. Certainly making UAE chase is still the better choice for those teams as it means Pog gets isolated.

yeah but they saw that gap hit 7 minutes, but as i type Ineos and Jumbo dropped off…

It’s a bit reminiscent of Roglics attempt to win the Giro. Everybody marked him as the out-and-out favourite from the beginning. Resulting in teams using every opportunity to make live hard for him.
If the teams keep doing it throughout the race, there is a tiny chance Pog can be cracked.
Although I think he is just too damn strong. He won by himself once, he probably can do it again.

Any guesses for the stage win today? I think I put my money on Asgreen for today :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I wonder if Alpacin is going to try and pull back the break to get MVDP some more bonus time.

Sharkattack!! :shark:

It’s an understood strategy that the team with riders in the break don’t need to help pull it back, so no, they won’t.

MVDP is in the break, but the front has gone another minute up the road. Alpacin has a helper for MVDP up there. Looks like Moviestar is going to pitch in a bit anyways.

Which of the two riders up front is with Alpecin?

MVDP and Meurisse.

Oh, I thought you were referring to the actual peloton, not the large group in between. Gotcha.

And Cav has had enough.
