I’ve recently moved across to a Wahoo Kickr v6 from my old Kurt Kinnetic and am primarily using Zwift, the move has been great and has given my indoor training a massive boost.
I’m running an old Trek Madone on the Kickr which has an Ultegra 6700 Di2 groupset on it. Now that I’m using Zwift the groupset is obviously getting a much bigger workout as well which has got me wondering how much life it has left in it given its circa 15 years old, and by life i mean the derailures/battery etc being electronic.
So now i’m wondering if I add a Zwift cog to take the shifting load away from the derailurers.
My big concern is how this would change the ride/realism of a groupset vs simulated gears. I mean how do you simulate the sensation of powering across a short climb in the big ring with simulated gears?
Would love to hear feedback on how people have found the cog and if they feel its diminished the experience
As someone not into realism and not using Zwift, I really like the cog. It’s controversial, but I prefer to just go into ERG mode, checkout and watch some Netflix or something else entertaining. It’s much quicker for me to get the bike setup and I find it is also quieter. Shifting on a trainer always felt wonky to me. The hub is cheap enough that you can just buy it and try it to see if you like it.

I love having cog, it’s much quieter without any chain gears shifting. Play controllers make the experience much much better than a click since you’re shifting just like on the road
