Hello, hello,
I’ve been riding the aforementioned Time pedals for a few months now and I’m wondering how stiff the lateral movement still is. I have to move the feet with real force.
Is this something that gets easier after even longer use?
Or is it worth using lubricant :)?
Or - even more absurd - file somethhing away?
Thanks!
Chris
By lateral movement do you mean rotational (as in float) or the actual side ways (5 mm) movement?
The lateral movement is probably hindered by your tread blocks on your shoes. You kind of want them to be tight so lateral stability remains good.
Can you explain your issue a little better?
I meant the side-to-side (5mm) movement, yes. Its far away from a smooth movement and requires quite some force to shift from side to side. The shoe rubber is not hindering the movement as far as I see.
Ok, with my time pedals it was the rubber tread blocks but I was using an mx4 pedal.
It should wear in over time similar to crankbros but you could try a lube similar to the old speedplay lube. You don’t want anything too thick or oily as it will attract dirt. Other option would be to ride in some mud which should break them in much quicker. I’ve never felt truly loose sideways float in a mtb pedal though. I always want my tread blocks in contact with the pedal.
Thanks, I will try some lube.
You want the blocks to in contact with the pedal for added stability? Doesn´t it make float in general more difficult?
Not on eggbeaters as the contact is adjustable in 1 mm increments using the contact sleeves. I set it so I have support but free feeling float . Best part about crankbrothers as the pedals are pretty rubbish durability wise.
IME, even though they advertise rotational movement, there is a high centering force. I took a file to mine which gave them easier rotation.
