Threads disappearing for no reason?

Have noticed a few threads disappear for no apparent reason, the latest being:

https://www.trainerroad.com/forum/t/chatgpt-can-it-be-a-good-coach

Does anyone know what these seem to randomly vanish?

Bummer. I had that one open waiting for a long read when I had time to dive deep.

The AI war is real. AIFTP self moderating forum posts now.

I don’t think anyone from the TR team deleted that thread. Does anyone know who the OP was?

Also, that Access Denied error doesn’t look like the thread was simply deleted, so something else might be wrong here. :detective:

@Twowkg, which other threads have gone missing?

Could OP have deleted their account or been banned? I don’t remember who it was, assumed you had access to that info

Weird that either would cause the thread to completely disappear though.

Per the internet way back machine:

That user doesn’t appear anymore either, looking thru the crux 5 thread. I assume that might be the cause of the disappearance.

I remember in the past when some people left, they were able to request all of their content was deleted, so if ET was banned, he may have (or TR may have) had it removed.

@eddie any update on why this might have happened?

Probably a good thing - it’s more likely to know which threads are created by other AIs than we are.

As @Pbase said, it’s likely that if the OP is no longer on the forum, that thread may have gone away with them.

I mean great but if someone leaving the forum nukes the entire thread that’s a bit worrying no?

There are lots of great threads with plenty of excellent discussion/information and if one person leaving causes all of that to disappear as if it never existed…

Ya that does seem kind of insane

Insane but true.

Well that’s bonkers.

@eddie I guess this is considered to be not an issue then?

If so that is rather disappointing.

I agree.

Sometimes this is out of our hands, though. There are cases where a forum user’s history needs to be removed from the forum, and doing that pulls threads if they are the OP.

This is unfortunate because we’ve lost some well-developed threads in the past, but there isn’t always an easy alternative option. :frowning:

My guess is that the message board software maker interpretted some of the EU privacy laws to allow for you to delete all of your messages/threads. So we get this outcome and all of the annoying cookie prompts.

Is it not possible to simply delete said users data, without deleting the thread? Feels like other platforms will sometimes show deleted for the account name/post/responses, but the remaining discussion is still present.
