ThinkRider X2MAX / XXPRO for TR Structured Training: Anyone tested the ERG algorithms?

Hey TR Community,
First-time poster here. I’m currently mapping out my indoor setup for the upcoming winter block and looking to optimize my “pain cave” purely around structured training and high-intensity intervals (think short, punchy VO2 Max micro-intervals).
While the general consensus here is always to buy a Wahoo Kickr or a Tacx Neo, I’ve been researching some high-spec, budget-friendly direct-drive alternatives. I’m specifically looking at the ThinkRider X2MAX and their XXPRO models.
On paper, the hardware and flywheel specs look decent for the price, but as a TrainerRoad user, I care way more about the software integration and firmware maturity than the heavy metal. Since early budget power meters from these brands historically suffered from noticeable power drift due to temperature changes, I am steering clear of their stand-alone meters. However, I’m curious if their trainer algorithms are more mature.
Before I pull the trigger, I’d love to get some honest, data-backed feedback from anyone running a ThinkRider unit with TR:

  1. ERG Mode Responsiveness: How does the trainer handle rapid target watt steps during micro-intervals (e.g., 30/30s or 15/15s)? Does it lag or overshoot badly, or is the resistance clamp snappy enough?
  2. Power Match & Drift: Does the trainer require constant spin-downs to stay accurate throughout a hot 90-minute sweet spot session, or is the internal temperature compensation reliable?
  3. BLE/ANT+ Dropouts: Any known firmware quirks or connection drops mid-workout when pairing with the TR desktop/mobile app?

I’m planning to log my training and map my data comparison charts here once I make a decision. Appreciate any insights before I drop the cash!
Ride on.
