My plan has me progressing through 1k and 2k intervals mostly and those are a tad faster than 5k pace. By the third or fourth repeat I’m close to throwing up.
How are the Form goggles? Is the fit good? Are the training plans any good?
The fit isn’t great, they’re by far the least comfortable goggles I own, but the workout library is huge. I was just looking at endurance workouts, and there’s 644 of them, all filterable by distance, duration, intensity, stroke, drills, equipment, etc. There’s enough variety there to never get bored. I’m not an experienced enough swimmer to determine if the training plans are good, but I just started one, so we’ll see how it goes.
Just looking at the plans, are you able to tell that they keep a weekly structure? Are they progressive (i.e. 10x100 this week, 11x100 next week?).
I’ve been swimming a lot more lately, but it’s all super haphazard. I’m wondering how much I’d benefit from some defined structure from week to week.
Yeah, they do. Each block seems to follow a similar structure with three weeks of work, each with a different focus, followed by a recovery week, and then it repeats, increasing volume with each block, and ending with a 3-week taper.
Here’s a screenshot of the plan description.
February was a very good month for me. 3rd week was a pullback week for me.
Swimming 4x/wk for about 12-14k yds
Bike is 8-11 hrs
Even my run is building up. Finally in the 20+ mpw territory for 1st time since 2-3 years. Achilles is behaving but I can feel it doesn’t like back to back run days.
Not a lot of keenness from the TR team for taking on Ironman in this weeks podcast, but a fair amount of respect for the distance.
Fantastic month. I’m really impressed by your ability to stick w/ the long trainer rides! 2x3hr in one week and another almost 5hr!.
Do you have an early spring race coming up?
Those podcasts are so long that I’ve fallen way behind. I’m still in June of last year. I’ve started to play them at 1.25 speed and fast forwarding all the bike racing and mountain biking segments.
Thank you. I do really well with volume. I did the traditional base 1,2,3 several months ago and really enjoyed those 2-3 hour rides and tempo has become my favorite zone.
Hi everyone!
Currently 5 months into my training for 2023 Ironman Mont-Tremblant with 5-6 months to go. I was wondering how everyone deals with bad weather days. We were hit with a massive snowstorm and I have a long run (2:40 RPE6) scheduled for tomorrow that I imagine is a pretty key run? Highly doubt the sidewalks will be clear by then, is there any recommendation for how (which workout, length, type, etc…) to substitute an indoor ride perhaps?
Fitness wise, is there any way to replicate this long run on the bike? Is this a big detriment missing the run?
Thanks!
5-6 months out is no biggie.
If you dont have access to a treadmill, maybe a 2h endurance trainer ride followed by a much shorter run?
If you can’t run at all, I would just add an endurance ride but be sure it doesnt affect your next planned workout.
Roll call!

Hi Guys and Gals,
I missed a few sessions. I’m struggling to hit the morning workouts. I also need to sleep more and eat better but no one is perfect right?
Swim - 6:33:54
Bike - 11:31:42
Run - 13:15:17
I’ve found a nice route for my running which has helped. But those missed bike sessions will be my downfall! Swim is ticking over nicely.
New month, new me
Another solid month in the books:
46 hrs on the bike
17 hrs of running
16 hrs in the water
10 hrs strength, mobility, yoga
Feeling strong and like fitness is coming together at the right time. Also, it’s been raining a ton so getting everything in feels like an accomplishment.
February was okay, I got all my bike workouts and runs in, but I wasn’t able to get in the pool at all since it was closed all month.
The only noteworthy thing recently is that now that the weekend Z2 bike rides are getting into the 3-4 hour range, I’ve been replacing them with long-distance races and fondo group rides on Zwift, which has helped enormously with compliance. Spring can’t come soon enough, I can’t wait to start doing stuff outside again.
It was an okay month to get the run back in gear
The swimming was alright
But the biking was missing/abysmal. I’m changing my schedule around to bike in the mornings, managed to get to bed “early” 4 nights this week, so if i can do this next week, i’ll be able to get on the bike and get an hour of riding each time. Aiming for 5 hours next week
and to get to 8 hours by the end of march (per week)
Can’t find a time where the gym is free enough for my workouts, all power racks are busy except on the weekends, so since i can only manage one day per week i’ll just work on basic maintenance. Kinda pisses me off to be honest but whatever, i’m doing what i can.
