You’re doing it - practice without the wetsuit. You want your hips high in the water, facing down to the bottom not ahead and without changing your kick your heels lapping the surface.

wait what?
All tris I have done the bike number is absolutely require, else its a DQ.
Kicking around doing tri again as I kind of miss running and want to break up the week as I am kind of getting bored just cycling. Have you all been doing the tri plans or just sweet spot for the cycling part?
Last time I did tri plans, pfitz running variation and masters swimming for my Chatty 70.3. I have time M-F but weekends can be less time as my daughter is with me.
sorry, I meant to say bib. Numbers on the bike and helmet, but leave the bib for the run.
I think most people follow the Tri Plans. However, it seems like it’s about 50/50 split here between those that follow all of the S/B/R workouts to a T and those that follow only the bike workouts and use some other method for the swim and the run workouts.
I’ve been doing the high volume half-distance plan for the bike and runs, I’ve found it pretty sustainable so far and I think I could probably handle more volume (that said, I have a pretty flexible work schedule and don’t have kids or a lot of other commitments so I have the time for it). For the swims, I’ve been doing more or less my own thing, using the workout library of the FORM goggles to find ones that sorta look like what the TR plan suggests when doing pool swims, and just doing continuous swimming in open water. When I go back to the pool I’ll probably do a FORM training plan, since they now offer that.
Figured as much and thanks. Will be weird for me cycling less but can always add more if needed.
I have seen those goggles and did not know it does that. I will probably start the swimming part a little later. I have time and work from home so that is not the problem for me either.
Oh a follow up when you add the full tri plan and ignore the swimming or running as an example is it better to delete them or does it matter? I might keep the running and ignore swimming for base but something I was thinking about.
In relation to AT.
It doesn’t really matter. If you miss a swim, it’ll adapt the swim plan but it won’t affect the bikes and runs. I just mark the swim as done even if didn’t do the exact workout, just to keep track of the days I swam, and leave it alone if I didn’t swim. You could delete them if you don’t want to be bothered to accept/reject the adaptations.
Thanks. Probably will just ignore the swims for now and do the runs. 40 min easy seems reasonable pace even though it has been a long while since I have ran.
Scheduled the 1/2 mv and will see how it goes.
I’m still using tri plans almost exclusively
It would be nice if the running and swimming synced but that seems to never happen even after years of waiting. Heck even the running doesn’t show up after the fact on the calendar still. Sigh
Remember that starting out running as a cyclist, the cardiovascular system is already there, but the structural integrity to keep you from getting injured isn’t. It’ll be really easy to blast out some fast running, but that comes with injury risk. Slow, short and frequent are the keys to restarting running.
Yeah I am planning to take it easy here as been a while so will be slow for me but also the humidity in GA is still brutal. Have a TM but since I work remote inside without anyone around it is nice to get outside more.
Just keep in mind the tri plans are not a good fit for everyone.
My uneducated guess is that the plan was created by people who were not strong runners…
I find swimming Wo adequate but running Wo were less than ideal
Yeah and usually do pfitz plans modified which I still plan to do after 3 months or so of easy running to get my legs somewhat back.
how did you find a place to stay??
I transferred to IM CAnada after trying for a while to get a hotel
I booked a small VRBO for my husband and myself the day I registered (and a car). I have learned over the years to book accommodations for debut venue Ironmans as soon as I register (or even beforehand). As it was, my host didn’t know about the race until a few weeks after I booked it. The entire community has been incredibly welcoming and helpful. My host is volunteering all day at the race and says the town is abuzz about it. I’m sorry you had to transfer but I totally get it. I would do the same with no place to stay in that remote of a place.
