Ironman Wisconsin this weekend and adaptive training changed tomorrow’s workout to a 45 minute threshold workout that’s labeled a stretch. Has anyone experienced this? Seems like an odd recommendation akin to cramming for a test that will do more harm than good.
Yeah that seems odd - however It is short - sharpen the knife stuff
I would go on how you are feeling - good go with it - if you are not feeling it, go to something easier
I’ll be there - came over a couple of weeks ago from Post Falls and swam and pre-rode the course. the green gorge portion is beyond beautiful!
any idea how they are going to handle traffic that morning - specifically on the bike course? lots of residential and then the 2 lane highway south.
Also the parking at the school and shuttling over to the start seems laborious - but I didn’t see any alternatives
Oh nice! Yeah, it’s super pretty. Reminds me of that little stretch of Centennial Trail between Post Falls and CDA, except even tree-ier and for much, much further.
No idea re: traffic.
Agree @ shuttles. I wonder where the majority of lots are? I assume not the school, because that’s definitely not hundreds of spots. It’s nice that they’re letting spectators on the shuttles though, especially as my partner wouldn’t feel great walking that far. Sidenote: My shuttle driver at STG took a wrong turn. That was fun for everyone.
Do you think TrainerRoad would ever invest in hiring a triathlon coach to overhaul then oversee these tri plans? If they do I will be the first one to submit my resume.
I am back @JoeX After stepping away because a lot of life stuff (divorce and trying to teach Middle schoolers during a pandemic) and training stuff (primarily no pool), I signed up for Eagleman 70.3 and potentially IMLP. I am signed up for IMLP after deferring this year. I actually signed up for IMLP back in 2018 to race 2019, had to deffer in 2019 till 2020 because of the thesis, then got pushed to 2021 because of the pandemic and finally had to defer one more time because of my inability to get back to the US from overseas.
Things are looking brighter. I hired a new coach, who is great so far, the pool is open twice a week for 90min with the potential for one more session on Friday, and got a curved, motorless, treadmill. My goal for Eagleman is 4:10 (30min swim, 2:10 bike, 1:20 run, 4min total transitions and then some grace minutes) and if I race IMLP, to enjoy it.
I am just a month into things now and my base is coming back. I still have a long way to go to hit my goals, but it will come. It’s good to be back.
I don’t see any reason to do a stretch threshold workout a few days before an Ironman, taper is about repair and recovery.
Welcome back!
I’ve given up waiting for a good Tri plan.
I’ve been a subscriber for years and have been holding on, as I had a really good locked-in fee
But I have given up waiting and canceled my subs
I love the TrainerRoad platform, community, podcast, and customer support. But the triathlon plans really are lacking, specially with so many good alternatives out there.
What are some good alternatives out there? I know Triathlon Taren has an app. TriDot?
Checkout the purple patch squad program.
Are there plans dynamic/run by AI?
Trainingpeaks has a lot of alternative plans to choose from, and you can automatically sync the workouts to zwift, garmin or other platforms. I’m using a plan from 80/20 endurance. Scientific Triathlon also has good plans.
For triathlon… A coach would be the better choice.
Tr plans are not bad to start with.
But you will outgrown them very quickly and you will notice the limitations once your goals start shifting
Yes, but a coach costs a lot more. I would love to have a coach, but I cant afford it.
That’s true… Painfully true.
I’m certain you can find free plans and probably adapt them to your needs, while also using TR
The super tricky part is balancing running and cycling. Making sure you don’t kill your legs on a bike Wo and then not be able to complete a running wo the next day …
Hard to say, but I don’t think it’s their priority now.
IMO a coach is far from a necessity- there are a lot of solid free plans out there. Like the TR plans most of them aren’t super in-depth, but I think it’s preferable to be a bit more flexible and adapt them to where you’re at with each sport anyway. End of the day the only way to know what works for you is by trying it.
I read a couple of the Friel books early on which I would really recommend- they were a big help on understanding what makes a training plan and how to build one from the ground up, so from there it was pretty easy to smash elements from different plans together to be what I wanted.
I recently hired a coach… Just for 3 months.
I want to see if she could get me through the funk I was going through the last few months. It’s working…
I really like her approach to training more than what I did for TR.
