I think we start with reset levels plus the last week or two of workouts taken into account - but I’m not sure. Certainly it has not processed all my rides (Garmin ‘outdoor’) and some I ballsed up myself.
Has anyone else seen their swim and run sessions adapted? I missed a swim and a run and I got adaptations shortening my next swim and run.
The more I’ve thought about it, that’s probably all it is. Because plan builder doesn’t adjust based on TSS of the event anyway, right? So it’s probably just for predicting event TSS…?
Probably not yet anyway, I’d expect AT will use any data it can correlate - there could be some connection of plan completion to planned race completion.
So if you expected to finish the run in 5 hrs and 250TSS (for arguments sake) it might adjust the plan to ensure your weekly TSS is around 250. Or something.
As I talk it through though, it’s probably too tenuous a link for long course racing.
Forgot to mention I was racing Eagleman today. Wow, I was not wanting to do this race. I’ve more more looking forward the time off I’m taking after the race.
So originally I was using this race as a St George slot, but have now decided not to go due to cost. So I really now didn’t have a reason for racing right after Tulsa. The week leading up I was not really working out. I think I did one good run and bike and easy volume.
The weather was absolutely PERFECT. If you know eagleman it’s usually windy. No wind today. A rare wetsuit swim too.
100 mile TT on the L10010 course yesterday in 3:51. Used as an IM simulation so same bike set up (Disc wheel is now a MUST), nutrition etc but rode ~10w above IM power. Speed is equivalent to a 4:18 bike split Straight off the bike into a 3x5k above race pace/power run.
10 weeks out from IM Copenhagen and seriously considering taking the deferral option to next year. The travel situation from the UK looks really messy and I’d be gambling on a couple of different things falling into place for me to be able to get there. Very difficult to be motivated to put in the hours when it’s so unclear whether I’ll be able to race.
It’s such a difficult decision to make, part of me wants to wait and see what happens but the other part of me thinks that I may aswell just pull the plug now and go again next year.
Yes I’m awaiting Barcelona, who knows whether it will happen and I will be able to go. I’m racing short course UK events until August which keeps me in the game (see the short course Tri thread)
Not tried either of them because I seem to get on quite well with the Aerocoach Arm Rests/Extension. If I didn’t go Aerocoach I would’ve gone for the d2z
Hey Nick I saw you did well and got the blue t-shirt. Great work! You and I swam similar times but your bike was 30 mins faster and that was the deal maker. Me… I was the unlucky first to miss the cut-off and get turned onto the low course to claim my second white t-shirt. I was undercooked on the bike and needed more base miles to TT strongly that undulating 200k course. Dare I say it, I needed more long outdoor rides of 5+ hours, and probably a mid-volume TR plan indoors (as opposed to LV). Anyway, tell us about your race!
Oh man I’m absolutely gutted for you. Having gone through the pain of that event I can imagine how much that must sting… my race was a mixed bag lots of good and a little bad but the T2A to T2B section broke me mentally and all I could manage was to keep my head down and put one foot in front of the other.
Swim: I actually really enjoyed the swim. Having done 100% of my swimming in water slightly colder than that and all long swims I found it so pleasant and came out really fresh.
Bike: Average 161 watts, NP 176, max 1 min power 254. Disc wheel was madness and I hit a top speed of 101.5kph. I only had 3:27 seconds of stopped time over 7:16. 3 minutes to refill at the 100k point, 19 seconds to fix a dropped chain, 8 seconds to pick up a dropped bottle. I was worried going into it as I was running 100% homebrew gel mix liquid nutrition and plain water. Loads of folks kept passing me on the climbs and I passed them all on the flats and descents. The headwind in the last 30 miles was soul crushing, spent a lot of it shouting curses at the air. I only did 1 5 hour ride in the lead up and am on a low volume plan too. Most of my ‘long rides’ are between 1:30 and 2:00. Would have loved those longer rides to get more comfortable over the distance.
Run: first 17k had 250m of elevation gain and took me 2 hours, made to cutoff with 25 minutes to spare. The next 5k took me 2 hours and it was absolutely savage and relentless. My advice for this event would be to train run, swim, bike and bouldering/rock climbing/scrambling up and down rock mountains just as much as the run. A pig running trails with paths as there aren’t any for the mountain section. T2b to finish I was so broken I ran 900m walked 100m until I got to the finish line. That 9k took 55ish minutes I think.
Savage event, definitely ‘extreme’. Really hope you go back to it and smash it next time. I rode some of that 10k hill with someone who missed the 2019 cutoff by 1 minute… I saw he managed the blue route so happy for him. Did you run the disc wheel too in the end?
I ran the disk and a Zipp 808 front. The disk was fine, but the 808 was a mistake given the gusting wind. I love my disk! But 22mm tubulars at 100psi should be left in the 2000s, things have moved on, and Scottish roads are better suited to 25mm+ at 80psi. The road surface for the last 30k is the worst metalled surface (on an A road!) that I’ve ever ridden. The chip & seal was so degraded it was atrocious.
You must be quite small, light, and aero I’m guessing? I’m 79kg currently, so was under powered for the hills, and I also probably had 15 mins of stops in total.
Well done for completing the high route. I’ve run it in training and it’s a big day out. Had I made the cut off I’d have been crab walking the rest of the run.
I ran a 60 front, 25c tyres, 75-80 psi. The road surface was horrible I ended up riding the 12inch wide hard shoulder which was a little bit smoother… I’m 175cm, 74kg, and carry most of my weight in upper body from my boxing days.
I have the revolver arm cups and did a bike fit back in January. I don’t know what he did but staying in aero got so comfortable and so easy to breather I find it much easier than sitting up actually.
I did wear aero gloves and helmet which I can’t say for sure if it helped or not. Also had a waxed chain but couldn’t put in latex tubes as I stuffed up the valve sizes when I ordered them
Yes, starting to think that Italy in September is a real doubt now. Catch myself thinking if Bolton 70.3 will sell out, if Europe is off limits there is going to be quite an uptake for it.
In the meantime getting ready for Eastbourne in mid July.
@JoeX Late to the party but doing 70.3 Calgary followed by 70.3 Worlds. Now to scroll back through this beauty of a thread to see what a missed. Good to be back!
