I had the rival as beta tester for a while. It is very much like a Garmin only 71% worse. No programmable workouts, limited ability to customize data fields, average gps and a general feeling of flimsiness. Even the much praised touchless transitions are kinda useless because you’re not timing your splits mat to mat. Once the beta test was complete I gave it to a friend and stuck with my 5 year old Fenix 3 which is still going strong.
Well there’s some assumptions being made, 1. That there is any value in recording the swim 2. The athlete doesn’t have a bike comp.
AW covers all training, if you use a bike comp on race day it covers your swim if you want, and your run.
Ultimately you don’t need a watch on race day, although you might want one. I’ve done IM with my Omega.
IM Arizona will be my first full distance race. I was very relieved to see the bike course go up at a full 112 miles. (Last year, before it was canceled, they couldn’t get reservation permits and were planning to run with a 70ish mile bike course. On the Facebook groups, some people were claiming they would finish the race then hop on a trainer in the parking lot to the the complete full distance bike experience. Crazy!)
its such an odd thing to have shortened courses
IM Texas (Houston/Woodlands) racers and fans were always bent on their short bike course (108 Miles?), I think when you register for this type of event you don’t want an * next to your time or feel like you did 5/6 of an IM
My first was at CDA in 2007 - the wind was white capping the lake that morning- and they offered people to not swim and just bike/run - I was like “hell no, I trained for 8 month for this thing” … but as I get older I see they were trying to prevent people from dying, so I give them a pass… now ![]()
The irony is that we also like fast courses, just as long as they are not short, I’ve signed up for IM 70.3 Oregon next July in hopes to set that 70.3 PB time
Its your brain bucket - It took a hit - its now trash after doing its duty
I would replace and pour one out for that one!
Hell no.
Glad you are OK!
Contact Giro, they will likely give you a discount on a new hat.
I own it and must say that things related to structured workouts have changed a lot since the release. Structured workout integration with trainingpeaks is very smooth now. Actually, the function I like the most is the swim workouts integration that was lacking in my previous watch (935) where I had to manually design workouts in TP before each session.
Hey guys/gals, I’m en route to Barcelona at the moment so I’ll do roll call on Monday
Good luck, Joe…race well!
Have fun!
Good morning everyone. Training for IMFL and have a 100 mile ride/1 hr run to do this weekend but the weather is looking worse and worse so I’ll be on the trainer most likely. What kind of time would I shoot for to mimic the 100 miles outdoors, or a particular workout?
I could turn it in to a double brick to break up the length of time on the ol’ trainer.
Open to all suggestions!
Thanks in advance,
Brian
@RyanGutenkunst Thanks for that tidbit, I was unaware of what was going on last year.
Secondly, best of luck with the race! It was also my first full distance, and because of so many cancellations in the last two years, my only one ![]()
Looking forward to doing it again this year though, had a great experience there in 2019.
Best of luck, Joe!
Just aim for the same time / power levels you planned for the outdoor ride. No need to overthink it.
Overthinking is my superpower! ![]()
Good luck!
Ive done Hoffman a couple of three times, stand-alone or as a brick. ![]()
