If anyone wants to drop off this list ping me a message, it’s not meant to be in bad taste, the thread was started to help us all through the stress of training, perhaps it can continue as an outlet during the pandemic, or as a distraction from it?

Stay safe. :+1:

I am bummed that it has been postponed but at the same time the inability to get swim training in was giving me concerns for how the event was going to go, given that I am 2 months out… :cold_sweat:

Looks like that’s it for me danish pm has just said all major events cancelled up to and including August

Oh that is pretty brutal. You kind of hope the races will go ahead but deep down know we will all be racing in December.

Well maybe.

My worry is that the small companies won’t make it through

While I was extremely excited to do my first half, I’ve spent quite a lot of time going through our plans and I’m not going to be doing the Wisconsin half in June. I am hoping that they delay it further out, but with a 4 month old and a history of asthma, such a large international event seems too risky.

Either way, I had a bike fit in the middle of HIM build that was a drastic change in seat height. We raised my seat about 2.5 inches and my knee angle went from 54 degrees to 37. After that it took me about 2 weeks of low intensity work to feel normal in the new position and I’ve decided to restart at a HIM LV base.

Since I have only been cycling for around 10 months all the base I can get is good in the long run. Doing pretty good with run and rides so far (only at week 3). No swimming as everything is closed.

Haven’t seen this, but Copenhagen was supposed to be my first full after a 5 year hiatus

Thanks @JoeX

I like the roll call idea, with all the craziness some normalcy is appreciated.

Last months bike was pretty good, more hours then the last IM training blocks, however no swimming, and very little running due to playoffs of beer league hockey, then gym closing and being too cold to run outside still. But hey, more bike rides should mean I will be stronger when I do race right lol.

I do wish IM would come out with the option right now to post pone your race to next year. That would put my mind at ease. I am like @jdmccoskey and have Asthma, and having a large group of people in a packed area (IMMT Village) makes me nervous. If I new I could post pone it I would probably switch over to a HIM training, as not being able to get my workouts in and knowing the race is coming up stresses me more than it probably should.

Thanks,

Thanks for the call out @JoeX. Unfortunately like many others I have kind of given up hope of having a race this year and TBH have a ton of trouble being motivated right now to put in big weeks and hard efforts. Also I am worried about burning out right now and impacting my immune system (and I am also sick from the flu… if its Corona or not who knows), so all in all I am kind of throwing 2020 in the gutter. If a race happens I will do some sort of pseudo build as best as I can, but I think 90% of the field will be a mess just like me.

I am just doing whatever I feel like now. No more structure. I might do a weekly VO2 max workout and like threshold and long ride but if I dont feel like it, I will just skip it for a zwift race. TBH I have been just doing zwift events.

Hopefully 2021 will be the year of ripping races apart. 2020 is what it is

Also its a shame I got a new bike for the 2021 season :frowning:

thanks @JoeX for the roll call, you’re a great motivator!

as expected, today IM Nice got cancelled officially (alternatives to be announced by end of April). I’m in the 3rd week of FD MV build. after a period of much adversity in base, I have had some really good weeks recently, testing at the 4.1W/kg mark at the start of build. the fitness is there and I feel very strong and healthy.

  • I’ve been continuing the plan during the past weeks, except the swims. it is way easier to do the MV plan if you don’t have to wrap your life around the ****** pool schedule!
  • my bigger life picture means I won’t be able to do an IM in the next 1-2 years
  • an October race could still work, but I aimed to use my summer otherwise. we’ll see.
  • I’ve been seriously considering the idea to do a self-supported race instead, after your mad suggestion @JoeX. I could pull it off, as I have easy access to lakes, safe bike routes, and lots of support. but I can’t yet imagine to drag myself through the run without the race atmosphere (even though I have people who would run with me/bike along). I’m telling myself I don’t have to race it, which helps, but when I’m honest with myself emotionally I want to.
  • after doing 2 years of HIMs I stepped up to the IM distance because life allowed it this year, otherwise I would have done another half. so I could do a self-supported half instead, which doesn’t feature the mental monster of a marathon at the end, but yeah.

big picture, for the next years I want to keep doing a TR LV bike plan, to be fit and have beautiful summer and vacation rides, and run next to it with my run club. my current alternative is to transition to that sort of training earlier now. I can fully see myself have fun this summer with lot’s of half marathon training and some bike weekend trips…

on the plus side I might get a new bike :star_struck: to give my Canyon Speedmax fresh company

from other peoples experience with cancelled IM races: do you have just the option to postpone or can you also get the $ back? I don’t expect it, but it would be a sweet bonus for a shitty situation.

The question is do we think Coueur d’Alene will stay as scheduled ?!

The 70.3? I don’t think it could take place. There’s no way. I tossed that race into the bin at this point. If it happens I’ll yolo, but tbh I don’t even think the pools will be open then where I live. Don’t keep your hopes up for anything before August at least.

I am slated for cda 70.3 but don’t think there is a shot in hell that will happen. I originally grew up in WA state and from what my parents and bro tell me very unlikely.

Even if they do move it I am not traveling from GA to do it. @JoeX you can take me off that one please and think my tri races are dwindling down for a year if not more.

On a plus side I have really enjoyed upping my cycling volume (2 hr sustained power and ftp going up also) and keeping up with the running. I can say i have not missed the swimming which is a sign it is probably for the best.

I’ve had four events canceled this season (3xgravel 182k, 146k, 184k; Long Course Weekend Wales) with another four hanging (including a 150k gravel in northern Italy in June) that may be canceled. One of my gravel events that was scheduled for 2wks from now, in Spain, is postponed to the week before IM Barcelona. I’m not that bright, but I’m bright enough not to do a 180km gravel ride the weekend before an Ironman, even if the IM was just a “fun” event to test my cycling. The short of it is I’m likely going to take up the organizers on their offer to defer IM Barcelona to 2021 for free.

@Garimac and @Joex, assuming conditions in Spain permit the race to occur, are you both still set on Barcelona or also considering the push to 2021?
