The Ironman Training 2020 Thread

. Same here. Im frustrated with the ramp though, Ill be using the 20min again. I just need to decide what target power to go for…?!

In fact I might just use IMVR11 as a virtual 40km TT as my FTP, I believe Coggan still rates that as the best measure.

Hi there @JoeX !

The Ironman Nice 2020 was rescheduled to 11 October, but in my opinon there is approximately 0% chance it will take place, so I just used the defferal option and will do the 2021 edition - which will take place in exactly 1 year.

I’m working from home since the begining of the lockdown in France and will continue for at least 2 more months - and I have time to squeeze a 1h workout at lunchtime - nedless to say, my TrainerRoad subscription looks like a steal

See you all next year and good luck to those competing this year !

There is no better substitute for a 1hr TT if you want your real FTP. I just don’t want to burn that many matches as I want to hit a 750TSS week next week and have always underestimated my 20 min tests (so gone out too soft and smashed the last few mins).

The ramp test is the only thing I can pace well indoors. My outdoor 25TTs have been well paced but I can’t do it indoor.

The Zwift NewburyCC 11 mile TT on a Saturday morning is a good hit-out but doesn’t have the Pre-race protocol.

Tricker than running is the lifting, I try to keep things simple but reducing from 3 hard lifting sessions to 2 is unlikely to be enough. Swimming, well. With lakes only open at certain times and prebooked thats a struggle already.

How is the recovery going? Lots of Netflix? :face_with_head_bandage:

Which saddle is that?

What’s Rouvy like? Any good?

Im a fan, particulary since Ironman started virtual racing on it.

I think if great. You can even race a virtual version of yourself

And there are some great routes

I’ll take a look thanks

Specialized power comp.

It’s not super expensive (130ish) and has work for me.

The fitter said she has seen success using the sadlle specially on shorter riders (I am 5’6)

Tomorrow would have been my first go at a half ironman. Instead of being in Madison, I am in week 7 of HIM base preping for Augusta 70.3.

This morning’s workout was supposed to be 2.5hr Ochoco at .69 IF, maxing out at 75% FTP. In honor of the canceled race I went on best bike splits and had it create a pacing plan for me at the same intensity and max power. 2 hours and 45 minutes later I have the workout done and feel a lot better about missing out on the race.

Did you do IMVR11?

Yes, the runs were just recovery pace Im afraid.

The bike was exciting though, virtually riding with Joe Skipper and Ben Kanute, its a roller coaster course, not helped by dropping my chain off the front ring near the start!

Terrible execution so I think I was lucky to walk away with 1h05.

With my June race cancelled I tacked the Everesting challenge instead. Was the first one in my home province of Saskatchewan. It’s a beast mentally as much as physically! I encourage everyone to give it a go!

Wow and 243 laps to do it!

:raised_hands:

Lol picking the flattest place on earth means a heavy lap count!

Defer to 2021 only

Did you use or modify TR plans? I’m thinking you probably had more of a century/full distance style approach than hill climbing

Yup, every ride, well sometimes not for the 30-45min quick spins in the forest, but yup. I look at it as a preventive measure. Strava is telling me I’m averaging 8 rides a week (some days are doubles, like a quick 30-45min in the early morning or the end of the day).

I’m still in for IM Barcelona, which is still scheduled for October 4. As my gravel bike went to the shop today due to a now-defective power meter, I suppose tomorrow is as good time as any to start running. Same for swimming: I’ll get in tomorrow for the first time since early January as the pools opened up this week. I’ll look to spend more time on the rollers and the road with the road bike as the gravel bike is out of action for what the LBS told me should be a minimum of two weeks (the Quarq DZero will likely need to be sent out of country…wait… and then return).

I’m figuring Barcelona will get canceled as a preventative measure against large crowds (here in Switzerland, for example, there is a continuing ban on events of more than 1k, leading to a cancelation of the awesome AlpenBrevet for this year) combined with what will likely be some form of continuing or reintroduced travel restrictions from non-Schengen countries. I have a 180km gravel race, er, event the weekend before IM Barcelona, also in Spain, which hopefully won’t be canceled. The gravel ride was postponed from April and it will be a much smaller turnout so I expect that to carry on.
