Are you sure the saddle is high enough? If yes then maybe try a 10mm shorter stem. It seems to me that your hip angle is quite closed…

Disclaimer: I am not a bike-fitter, but I spend a lot of time thinking about bike fit and trying things out…

Edit: I am myself 176cm with a 79cm inseam- so very close to your measurements. What is your center of bb to top of saddle distance along the seattube? Mine is just short of 70cm in case that helps.

Saddle height is 705mm.

I feel like the bike is too short to let me hinge my hips properly with a 110mm stem, so I feel like a 100mm would make things worse…

If anything, you need a longer stem, not a shorter one. A shorter stem will just make things worse.

But yes, you can definitely start by raising your saddle…that will have the added benefit of extending your reach, since the saddle will move backwards a touch as you raise it.

I honestly don’t think your saddle is too low, or that the bike is too small. For those that said raise the saddle, see the brightened photo I attached. That knee angle can’t tolerate a much higher saddle, and his feet look great, with no ankling or anything.
Just from looking at your position, you’ve got the right idea in keeping your arms bent and shoulders relaxed, but with that, it’s apparent that you have a pretty standard torso and long arms proportional to your height and legs. I’m in a bit of the same boat, and was feeling “scrunched” for years, so I always rode too big of bikes, with too much reach. You’ve done well by getting the right size bike. What I think you need to do is lower the handlebar position, like a lot… It’s hard to tell from the photos/video, but it looks like you have several spacers under the stem. Try going like 30mm-40mm lower with your stem/bars and see how it feels. You’ll end up rolling your hips forward a bit since you’ll be reaching lower. Honestly this “big” change has got me dialed lately!

Looking for some advice that I hope might be simple.

In October I had an amazing bike fit on my tt bike, new aero bars put on but I started to get numbness in my groin when being in the tt position for 20 mins + so I went back to my fitter and he suggested a new saddle which I went for. A friend put it on and said that the stack height was a little different, since doing that I have been getting a little discomfort at the top of hamstrings and behind the knee.

Any suggestions on what can be an easy win?

Typically, discomfort behind the knee indicates a saddle that is too low.

The hamstring discomfort, though, would possibly indicate the opposite, I think.

What was the old and new saddle?

New saddle is a Secret Saddle Stride the old one was just the bog standard planet x my bike came with.

Not familiar with that particular saddle, but based on a quick glance, it appears to be a snub-nosed saddle.

Where did you friend position the nose of the new saddle relative to the old one?

He tried to get the same angle but he eyeballed the height,

Sorry, I wasn’t clear…where is the nose / front of the saddle relative to the BB vs the old saddle? I am referring to the fire / aft positioning of the saddle, not the height.

A snub-nosed saddle is typically 2-3cm behind the previous nose position of a regular saddle.

If your buddy just “eyeballed” it, my initial guess is that he kept the nose in the same position and also has your saddle too low. That could explain both of your discomforts.

Any chance you can have the fitter adjust the saddle position?

So take the saddle up a little and bring it forward?

No, back…if he kept the nose in the same position as the old one (ask him before moving), it needs to go backwards on the rails.

I thought the rule of thumb was the other way around: pain behind the knee indicates saddle too high, pain in the front of the knee indicates saddle too low.

yeah, I was defaulting to thinking when he said pain behind the knee to thinking he meant “behind the knee cap”.

Well it did the business, only raised it a few mm and did an hour in the tt position no discomfort.

I am looking for some advice here. I have had recently bought a new bike and I am still trying to dial in my position. Is there something that I should change?

Reference:
My height- 170cm
Inseam- 80cm
BB to top of saddle- 72cm
Setback - 7cm
Reach- 58cm

I’m sorry, I didn’t see this earlier. I have changed from a 110mm stem to a 100, and slammed it, and it is MUCH better - thank you. Note that a pro bike fitter missed this, so kudos :+1:
