Your arms and upper body definitely look better to my untrained eye, less rigid and strained
If your hips arenāt rocking lowering the saddle looks good too again my untrained eye says behind the knees/ calves you look less strained there too
The feeling of extra weight on the hands should dissipate I think when your core gets used to the new position.
Completely off the fitting topic I like having a more flexible arm and body position for control and making myself more visible in traffic and it looks like youāve got that
Hey guys, Iām trying to refine my position through the winter months and Iād love some opinions! Iām 183 cm tall and ride a size 58 CAAD10 with a 90mm stem. Iāve been riding for about a year and a half and my ftp is 262 watts. I donāt race, but I definitely want to be fast to hunt down those KOMs. Iāve watched basically all the bike fitting videos made by Francis Cade and Cam Nicholls and tried to adjust my position accodringly. From what I can feel, the bike still feels a tiiiiny bit too long (only on longer rides), even with the shorter stem. Do you think I should be on a smaller frame? I also have pretty inflexible hips and seem to rock on the saddle quite a bit, maybe some shorter cranks would help? The ones I currently have on the bike are 175 mm. Hereās a little clip of me cooling down after a training session: VID_20201129_190630.mp4 - Google Drive
Thanks!
Hey yāall this isnāt as much a bike fit question itās more my pedal stroke.
Recently I donāt feel straight on my bike. I twitch my left leg a lot. Whatās the issue yāall think? I have videos from the back and from the left leg side. Iām not in any pain just uncomfortable and have to move around I donāt really get it.
From the rear, there appears to be a bit of a āwood chopā that means the knee is outward from the midline when at the top of the pedal stroke, and comes inward towards the bottom. Not a huge problem on itās own, but we need to understand your discomfort to know if it is related.
There also seems to be a fair amount of movement at your saddle, mostly left right, but some apparent ābounceā if I am seeing it right.
From the side angle, it is hard to say, but you may have your saddle a bit too high. There is a fair bit of toe point. That may be ok, but it seems quite low to me and maybe you are reaching to hit the full stroke at the bottom?
If I try to keep my knee straight like youre noticing itās difficult like my body says that somethings not right and moves it out.
The bounce is what I mean by move around. Like I bounce/ move a bit to get ācomfortableā I guess like reposition myself.
Itās like my body wants to be in one position but Iām naturally shifting to a different one. Idk how to explain it.
I did do some quad stretches before riding Saturday and Sunday, that helped a bit. Iāll put some focus on that and see if I notice any benefits.
Generally speaking, you should not be forcing your body into any position or alignment. If you are doing so to avoid pain/discomfort, something is off fit wise. What happens if you just relax and let your body flow as it wants to flow?
Essentially, Iām trying to understand the current state, when you just ride, and what is āwrongā with that specifically.
Hereās a fun one, Iāve developed a bad habit of twisting my hips to the right a bit and pedaling with my right knee jumps out; a friend pointed this out and made a video, itās quite bad. On the rollers, I do not so this at all, knee is straight. I started riding rollers more recently, 45-90 minutes at a time.
Is your saddle straight? If you have an aero seatpost, it obviously must be, but if you have a round seatpost, even a degree to two can make a difference in how your hips sit relative to the frame.
I wonder if people can chime in here. Iām having ongoing right lower back/left hamstring issues, and spent 20 minutes playing around with bike setup. Iāve now got all the spacers and the saddle all the way back, and I still feel like I canāt get my weight far enough back to hip hinge properly. Iām wondering if the bike is actually a bit small?
My initial reaction is that yes, the frame is too small for youā¦it looks like you are trying to jam you hips back on the saddle to get more reach (and leg extension).
Iām 175cm and I generally ride a 54 (although on my Canyon, I ride a small). 177cm on a 52 seems pretty tight, even with a short inseam.
Yeah, Iād say definitely too smallā¦legs arenāt fully extending and you are trying to stretch out / push back to get more room, but there isnāt any.
But that is just my opinion / analysisā¦letās see if others have a different take.
