Tarmac SL7 Release date

Though I wonder if the weight savings outweighed the tube?

That is the claim…but based on what I heard in the Cycling Tips pod the otehr week, the difference between the tubeless / tubed wheels is minimal and that all visual evidence points to the new wheels as being originally designed for tubeless (tubeless rim strips pre-installed, beds and hooks that look very similar to to TL rims, etc).

Haven’t been sufficiently intrigued to check the actual numbers, though… :man_shrugging:

Here’s the article: Roval ditches tubeless with its new Rapide and Alpinist CLX wheels - CyclingTips

Draw back of tubeless is heavier rim and heavier tire by 70g on GP5000 and fluid in wheel.

If you make rim lighter, and use a lighter tire the overall combo might be lighter then tubeless. I think the latex tube was only a few Watts higher rolling resistance.

May i ask what’s your source?

Hi Mark,

to be honest. I am a total SWORKS fan boy and asked a lot of dealers (just the big ones and concept stores for a release date) in Europe (Germany, UK and Belgium). Till end of April all of them told me "we do not have any information, but if you want we could inform you, when we will have an information.

At the 12th of May I received two emails from a dealer in Belgium and a dealer in UK. Both informed me about this date.

I heard the same from my local dealer, he will receive his first SL7’s on the 27th of July

It’s a pity the new wheels aren’t tubeless ready.

While i don’t really care myself and would pick one up the resell value might be affected aswell down the road.

In 2-3 years the entire market will have shifted to tubeless and selling these wheels might be a struggle.

Probably hard to say. But If you’re just talking tubes vs tubeless, the weight of the latter comes out fairly similar depending on what tubes you use or how much sealant you use. Bicycle Rolling Resistance did a test/review which compared the total system weight GP 5000 vs GP 5000 TL and it was within a couple grams

April?

Oops corrected it, meant July😉

Thanks Flo1992. I don’t think I can wait that long. Gonna have to decide between the new TCR and Emonda. Plus, it looks like the spesh will be more expensive based on 2020 prices for the 105 groupset.

Hi Mark,

I am in the same situation. I sold my road bike (Cannondale SuperSix) last month, because I had a good opportunity. So since 3 weeks I ride my Gravelbike with cheap road bike wheels.

So from a 6,4kg bike to a 10.3kg Gravel bike. However I guess it will be worth the wait.

I also briefly considered ordering the new Emonda. But then I would have been annoyed in a month.

I’m pretty sure that Specialized will be able to bring the best all-round bike back on the market.

The brand also plays an important role for me. A trek is a trek. A giant a giant. But if you ride an S-WORKS, everyone knows that you ride a special bike.

(My own opinion → Yes I’m a fanboy :P)

Looks like the Green S Works is running SRAM and the Red S Works is running Shimano Dura-Ace.

Green is my favourite colour, but usually green bikes don’t look that pretty.
This one kinda catches my eye, I will wait patiently for the official release and some real life pictures of it.

So glad I checked this thread again, I nearly bought the Émonda SL6 Pro. A few more weeks of wait won’t hurt.

Any ideas what the UK pricing will be like? The Tarmac SL6 Comp was priced against the 2020 and now 2021 Trek Émonda SL6 at £2,900. Don’t want to spend much more than that.

Do you have any idea how much discount can be negotiated when buying the new s-works with DA? I think list price should be around 10k€…

Interesting about the tube only clincher wheels! I suspect a lot of Specialized and Roval marketing hype. Also bold claims about the CLX32 being a great handling wheel - my Zipp 303’s whist deeper, handle better than the Rovals and are more stable in crosswinds. But the Zipp’s are not as fast up a hill!!

I do understand that tubeless incl rim is the heavier option but I can live with that because of the (imo) better comfort and the feeling of better grip especially when cornering (this is just highly subjective). I still don´t get it why Roval makes this 180degree turn regarding tubeless and kicks the tubeless customer out of bounds with these wheels.

The only reason I can imagine is that overall weight of SL7 is a Problem for Spesh because they made it more aero

Maybe their WT riders were going to ride these this year with tubes and didn’t want to go tubeless?

Then they were hoping to get them on tubeless in the future?

I think your weight idea is probably more accurate.
