Specialized Power Mirror saddle

Just did 3 hours on the trainer for the first time with the Mirror. Zero numbness, which is a first, but still some butt fatigue. I don’t think anything really fixes that, but the Mirror is definitely more comfortable than any other saddle I’ve used. I don’t know that it’s magical enough to spend $450, but I’ll keep this one and maybe swap it around as I change riding modes over time (TT, etc.).

no you’re not wrong. I had an old fizik forever that had that sweep and a level was nearly useless.

Agree. The position I ended up with after several adjustments happens to be the one in which the carbon rails are level. Probably as intended.

Note: Intentionally dual posting this

PSA: Excel Sports is listing the Power Mirror saddle as $324.99, get it while you can

Did my first ride on the power mirror. When I tested it outside it felt MUCH better compared to the regular non-mirror power. When I tested it inside, it felt better but I was still getting butt fatigue during a one hour session.

So my overall conclusion is, definitely an improvement, but does not solve all the issues of fatigue. At this point I am not sure anything will, indoor trainer is just extremely unforgiving.

Also, I am using Rapha Bib’s and Chamois Cream as well. Let me know if anyone has other suggestions as well.

Got my Power Mirror delivered last night…hoping the softer nose helps alleviate some of the pressure on my perineum, where I just had some surgery. Been a month and the road back is proving to be a bit of a challenge. Did 3 rides and had a minor setback so going to rest another week or so and hope that, combined with the saddle, let’s me get abck to full time on the bike.

My only question is going to be about the seatpost…I have a Thomson SP on my trainer bike, which should be OK as it is top / bottom clamp…after “trainer season” I’d want to put it on my gravel bike or my road bike. My gravel bike has an ancient USE suspension seatpost (also a top / bottom clamp design), but my Canyon road bike has side clamps, which I’m guessing will be a no-go for the Mirror.

Side clamps work fine as long as they are made to work with the oval shape of the carbon rails on the Mirror saddle. Most Specialized bikes are side clamp and has a different clamp depending on if its alloy rails or oval carbon rails

I dont know much about Canyon but I am sure that there are ways to fit it without much hassle!

Yeah, I just need to find out if my Canyon clamps are designed to work with them…it is a 2018, so we’ll see.

7x9mm side clamp.

Reading your reply makes me wonder if your saddle is too high. I know I used to get fatigue until I lowered it a few mm and then maybe fore/aft if needed for you. Just a thought of course what has worked for me and while I have a few power mirrors, I use the power elaston on my neo bike (no 7x9mm clamp) which as you can imagine is really rigid and have no issues.

this sounds like a fit issue.
Saddles are RARELY the root cause of soreness problems, though a bad one will exacerbate a bad fit.

Either your saddle is too high, or reach is too long, or combo of both.
I would drop your saddle 10mm and see if that makes a difference for a ride or two.

The most important insight here (given the reviews I do not oppose that mirror are the most comfortable saddles on the market). But your bike position is doing most of the job when it comes to comfort of the saddle. And I would add a little small thing - check if your saddle is really straight in line with your bike  sounds stupid but even small rotation (if you have round seatpost) can cause a lot of unnecessary discomfort.

I had a similar learning. After years of intermittent issues and fits at several shops, a fitter noticed that I had one leg that is longer than the other. It was life changing.

Happily able to report that now that I’m about a month in to Mirror saddle riding, I don’t even notice the saddle anymore. Like ever. It’s become like my sunglasses… which is just perfect. At first I was aware of it and always trying to feel if anything was different… now I don’t even shift around, doesn’t seem to matter what bibs I wear.

Now if I could eliminate hand numbness once and for all, I’d be all set.

Same here! Took me almost two years of knee pain and saddle discomfort to realise that I needed 6mm shim under my right cleat.

I also noted that I got some knee pain when riding inside. And noticed that my floors weren’t flat. This caused the bike to tilt to the left and it really affected my pedalling and right knee…

It’s all in the details with a sport with so much repetition and also sitting on something so unforgiving (inside at least).

How did you fix the issue with the floors not being level?

I’m a month into ownership as well. I will definitely not say the saddle disappears on 2+ hour trainer rides, but it IS SIGNIFICANTLY better. Romin Mirror.

I have the Wahoo Kickr, so I can adjust the feet on it if the floors are a bit uneven. So I just did that while having a level on the saddle while adjusting.

Since the saddle is so far from the floor, a little unevenness at the base gets multiplied once you reach saddle height.

Great suggestion, I will try that with the level on the seat. Thanks!
