Specialized Crux Owners - Clearance and next gen

I was referring it to being a 2026 model… but on that note I don’t think the bike seen at unbound has been released yet (but could be wrong).

I do hope a new crux is in the works but doesn’t seem likely, at least in 2025.

I think you are right about the Diverge. It was raced at Unbound but it isn’t on sale yet. Current stock of Diverges on the website are the previous model.

I guess my next question is (mainly to myself) - if they release a new Crux and it leans even further into the gravel spectrum (geo, aero, integration), do I even want that… I like that the current Crux is simpler and still has some CX geo design to it. I mainly race CX and do gravel the rest of the year for fun.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see…

I also just saw on the InCycle store website that the new Crux is listed as the “2026 Specialized Crux…” So maybe that answers the question?

Overheard at weight weenies forum. New Crux allegedly Q1 2026. Below is what one user is saying after talking to LBS:

“Full internal cables, tire width would at least accommodate 50 mm, aero properties.”
He said that the current Crux leant much on the Aethos, the new one will do more so on the SL8.

No surprising updates imo - curious if that launch data is real. As a current gen owner, I am likely going to updgrade when it does eventually come out.

Saw the same post on the crux page on Facebook. They just released new colors…Q1 seems doesn’t seem far away but who knows. The telling sign is if they clear them out come November. With gravel tires such as the terra and tracer going to 50 mm it would make sense to have clearance at least for that.

I do hope to see a new crux in 2026 with everything you said. It would be a hot seller for sure.

Man the new colors are great! Almost makes me swap my 2022 out for one…

Also just brainstorming a bit. Given Specialized new road wheels and sticking to 21mm internal and releasing new road tires in 28mm I wonder if the new Crux is only going to clear 50mm (would make sense given they just released new gravel tires that max out at…50mm). I think the new Diverge will clear 2.2s and be used for the Unbound type races but I think the Crux is going to get an aero make over but max out at 50mm.

Honestly wouldn’t mind gravel bikes focusing on more aero rather than just tire clearance. I get big tires are fast but so is aero

I am just hear to say, it is sad to see the crux go so far gravel. There are precious few true cyclocross bikes left to buy.

My wife bought a 2024 crux for cross and it was major jump in her enjoyment of cross having been riding a gravel bike.

In what ways of its directions towards gravel is it losing some of the cross capabilities? In my opinion, adding a UDH, aero frame, and larger tire clearance really changes nothing. It’s primarily the geometry (in my opinion) that lead it to be more of a cross bike/competent road bike. I don’t see any of the 3 potential upgrades I listed, taking away from cross.

I’m not overly familiar with cross requirements as a sport, so maybe I’m way off.

The BB drifting lower and trail getting longer, reach going out, seat tube getting shorter, still functional for shouldering, but less than it once were.

As it sits, the crux is excellent for cross. But I don’t feel warm and fuzzy that it will stay that way.

The crux is kind of between a Giant TCX (dedicated cross bike) and a Cervelo Aspero (dedicated gravel). I am betting the next gen will be much closer to the Aspero.

Despite far more people owning drop bar nobby tire bikes, ‘cross is fading in popularity. Which is a darn shame, a 30 minute race in your local park should be more approachable than a 100+ mile gravel epic.

From WeightWeenies forum - I think we all knew this but sounds like no Crux for another year at least….sad but not surprised. Looks like I will still be rocking my 2022 Crux for another year!

Out of luck. Doing preseason now. Crux Q2 late summer. Be surprised if it’s on time. SL9 isn’t even on my radar.
Aethos in the spring.

Considering they just released new colors it makes sense. I mean we have at least seen the new diverge “in the wild” but still not for sale. I don’t think there have even been any spy shots of a new Crux which would indicate it is a ways from release.

Be careful. I got beat up when I said this last year when the UDH came out. I was wrong and a new crux was IMMINENT. :winking_face_with_tongue:

Yea when the hell is the diverge coming out  they better not showcase the Crux at unbound and then not release it for a few months

Curious what these are all about. Hopefully they are released with the new diverge.

Carbon spokes from the looks of them.

How can you tell? Look steel to me.

Too wide to be steel. At least they look like the carbon spoke wheels I have. Also, check out the new road wheels Roval released. Looks like the same spokes.

Interesting. Fwiw carbon spokes would prevent me from buying. Don’t need that on gravel. I bet they will come out with a mid tier model tho that has steel. Like C, CL, etc

Yea I’d expect only the top tier spec to have carbon spokes. I love them but totally get they’re not for everybody.
