Skinsuit recommendations?

I’m after my first ever skinsuit. I’m between a few.

Assos Le Houdini S11 - love the look

Nopinz Sonic RR - love the price

Nopinz Hypersonic RR - assume it’s faster than the Sonic

Van Rysel - RCR-R obviously very good value, RCR-F presumably faster but I don’t like the design.

I’m in the UK and need something that will post today, as I have an event this weekend.

I’m 77kg and 183cm. I’d pick M & tall for Nopinz, and just M seems to be good for the Assos. I’ve not looked in depth at VR options yet.

Any comments appreciated!

Bought Houdini & Hypersonic, will see which fits best :man_shrugging:

I assume the comments will now flow in telling me why both are poor choices

I’m biased but always recommend Galibier stuff for UK/Irish based cycling…

Certainly well-priced! I have some of their socks and gloves, wouldn’t have occurred to me that they were a brand that offered this sort of thing.

With the NoPinz, its not as simple as which one is faster.

They are differently priced, but also have a different target operating window.

If you can manage the Hypersonic window, go for that one. Else go for the Sonic

I did wonder about that. You think the HS actually performs worse than the S if you’re going at a slower speed? Is this about density of arm-ribs or something?

If it requires a certain windspeed then yea its possible for the sonic to perform better.

But I doubt its a cliff edge drop in performance. You would imagine its a scalable effect

As it is I’ve decided to send the HS back without even trying it on, the Assos fit like a (pretty tight) glove, and I prefer the not-all-black look.

The Assos one looks great to be fair.

Im stuck with NoPinz as my club uses them for the custom clothing

Interested to look at the VR one though. Have a few of there jerseys and considering the price, I cant fault them.

FWIW I “won” my event (a sportive) by over 30 minutes, so I’m not sure it was £350 well spent, I’d have been perfectly content winning by 25 minutes

haha, well you have the skinsuit now, get into some TTs

When you said event, I thought you meant a TT or Crit

It probably made your initial gap more demoralizing.

Nah, just a local sportive that I thought (based on times of a similar route from last year) I could maybe smash. I knew nothing would be sadder than giving it my all and losing by a minute though, so threw some money at the problem so I wouldn’t be at home today thinking “balls, if only I’d <x/y/z>”. My bike is far from a slippery aero beast though, so maybe that’s needed for next year. For now, enough skinny tyres, time to get back on the MTB some more.

Lolz, funny you should say that. As I rode off near the start of the ride I did think “better make this look convincing, break their spirit” as I knew I was facing hours of headwind by myself and if a group of 4 tried they’d certainly reel me in

(FWIW they didn’t know of the 'suit though, it was cold so I was able to hide my shame with a windproof for the first 10k )
