Silca Super Secret Chain Lube

its definitely messy to apply. it was one of the reasons i wanted another option. I need a floor cover and a very thick towel to not make a mess all over the place

You rewax after you boil.

I’m guessing that’s why they don’t actually show them applying it in any of the videos. It’s a lot easier to just tell people it’s easy to apply than to show it lol

Will boiling water deform plastic jockey wheels?

Aren’t these videos sufficient?
TL;DW cross chain position, apply from top of cassette, one drip per link if you want to minimize amount, apply night before a ride.

More tips:

Your photo looks normal to me. That’s dried wax that repels dirt. I don’t bother wiping it down afterwards. All I care about is how smooth and quiet shifting is while I extend the time between full dips.

theyre plastic!?

I think so? It’s Shimano slx

maybe boiling isnt best idea because of the bearings inside

Just pedal bike and use a flat head to shave it off

Look at Silca site again. Josh has a very clear video on how to apply it

Go to about 4’ 50ā€

I watched the whole thing. Didn’t see him show it

My apologies for putting in an incorrect link. Try this

Thanks, that’s about how I did it. I used a little more than that

With Super Secret I do one drop at a time on each link. I do put paper towels under the bike but by only putting one drop on each link I don’t get much dripping. However we I shift the chain up and down the cassette after applying a little bit does fly off.

I wish Silca would come out with a tip like this product to make applying Super Secret less messy

I wonder if that cap will work on the SS bottle. I know the muc-off cap is the same threads.
Looks like you can’t buy it. Sold out.
3d printer anyone?
Cap is a 24-415 but a 410 would prob work.

You can just buy the luberetta and fill it with Silva secret wax. That’s what I have done.

Edit: Sorry, it looks like you mean that that luberetta is sold out.

Sometimes it takes a bit of trial and error to limit the mess. While it’s not a perfect solution, I’ve found the following procedure limits the amount of excess that runs off…

  1. cross chain as per the Silca instructional video (big ring/ big cog combo)
  2. one drop per roller on top just before where the chain contacts the rear cog…the articulation allows more of the wax to get inside vs running off
  1. Only crack open the twist cap enough so that a light squeeze pushes out a single drop…

I’ve found that step three above drastically limits the excess that’s drips off onto the floor… YMMV

Only thing I’ll add is that sometimes a bit of a crust develops on the end of the twist cap, so be sure to scrape that off with your fingernail.
