The American flag fork. MERICA
This is my recently retired spooky skeletor with my training wheelset. This thing ripped, but my team gets insane deals on Allez sprint frames so now I’m riding one of those.
New Bike Day!! - I sold my previous aluminum steed earlier in the spring, and today picked up my new Allez Sprint. Epic!! I was riding a BMC Gran Fondo previously, and the responsiveness to power of this bike is other worldly, not to mention the nearly telepathic steering. So good! I can’t wait to start hammering this thing around the local crit series!
Right now she is still 100% stock everything, but boy do I have some big plans for the future! Also, please ignore the mile of spacers and the positive stem, by LBS hadn’t gotten my fit dialed yet when I took the picture.
All hail the allez sprint! New wheels are finally in – pretty big pain to get the tires on (schwalbe pro one) but looking forward to running road tubeless.
What tire size are you using for schwalbe pro ones? I have mine built up but have yet to decide on the tire size. Contemplating 28C pro one’s at the front and 30C pro one’s at the back but wondering if it will fitt.
I’m running the 25mm tires. The rims are 46mm deep with 21mm/28mm inner/outer rim widths. There are a couple of threads out there about those specific wheels and most state that 25mm tires end up being around 27-28mm wide due to the wider internal rim width.
I recently joined the Aluminati as well, found a good condition 2012 CAAD 10 105 and upgraded the components with some Craiglist deals.
I have a carbon bike as well, but something about an old school CAAD gets me excited to ride. I agree a lot with what @Jonathan mentioned in an earlier thread, comparing the riding experience to driving a classic sports car. I think I’m nostalgic about this look and feel because it was what I watched/rode when I first started riding.
This bike is plenty light and geared for the mountains, there was part of me that was worried about the comfort of an aluminum frame but long rides haven’t been a problem, although I can tell there isn’t as much road softening compliance, that’s the last sort of ‘comfort’ I’m worried about on a 4 hour ride It reminds me of a lowered race car with stiffened suspension, keeping your sense just a little more engaged.
The biggest adjustment for me riding this bike has been fast descending: coming from a disc/carbon bike, and riding in mountainous terrain often, I find adjusting to the modulation of rim braking + the “chattery” nature of taking fast turns, especially on uneven pavement, to have a different feel than on my carbon racer and I’m still getting the hang of it.
Here in my Caad10 that I’ve converted into a TT bike. I love it and have no plans on upgrading to a “real” TT bike anytime soon.
2004 Lemond Alpe d’Huez. Originally an Ultegra 9 speed build, upgraded to 10 speed 105 shifters a few years ago, but still on the original crankset and rear derailleur (and only changed the bottom bracket for the first time a couple of months back) despite >30,000 miles on the clock!
Started life as my only road bike so was used for racing, training and commuting. Did UK Ironman on it in 2005 with some clip-ons and some carbon wheels. Now splits it’s time between being a wet weather trainer (hence bulletproof Mavic Open Pro rims paired with 105 hubs and plenty of spokes, plus 4 Seasons tires) and the turbo trainer.
Bike before this was a Cannondale Caad 3 or 4 which I loved and was sadly wrecked when I got hit by a car. Brutal ride quality though - was in the days when they still shipped with alu forks that had no give in them at all Felt super quick and sharp for up to about 90 minutes, after that my arms started going numb on anything but the smoothest roads. I have plans of building up an alu bike for racing crits at some point, either with a modern Caad frame or something like the Bowman Palace (https://bowman-cycles.com/products/bowman-palace-r-frameset
I might be buying the CAAD13 when it comes out, it looks great but haven’t decided yet.
The Ultregra disc and the 105 disc come with different wheelsets.
Does anyone have experience with the RD 2.0., 28H wheelset that comes with the 105 disc?
It believe it also shipped with the CAAD12 105 disc.
The ultregra are getting Fulcrum Racing 600 DB
That stem!!
I’ve got a CAAD 12 105 that came with these wheels and unfortunately have nothing good to say as I broke several spokes on the back wheel. Bought a set of Hunt 4 seasons and couldn’t be happier. Maybe better off with the mavic spec wheels on the ulterga equipped bike.
Sorry I see its fulcrum wheels on the ulterga bike silly me
Haha thanks for the feedback, with a few others things I read on different sites new set of wheels is a must with the 105 disc version.
It’s a shame they don’t have the ultrega in “Mantis” colours, wouldn’t be much of a question then haha
I went with the CAAD 12 105 as the colour was far nicer plus let’s be real 105 vs ulterga ain’t going to make much difference and regardless of which build you buy at this price point the lowest denominator will be the wheels.
2016 CAAD12 Black Inc. 15.4 lbs with pedals and water cages/bottles.
I’m probably keeping this one forever.

Got a great deal on a 2019 caad12 105 as the 13 was being announced. I sold the cheap fulcrum sport wheels and put on some fulcrum quattro’s. They have been a great wheel for me as I live in a flat area. Plus I think they look great for cheap and I feel safer on them than the cheap carbon options I have tried. Don’t worry…the gatorskins are just temporary until my new tires arrive. They are a solid tire, but definitely leave much to be desired in speed and comfort.
I’m going to have to subtract points for hideous bottles, derailleur pulley, and non-driveside photo. Other than that, super baller build! Good job!
That thing is so sick! Love it.
