Up way too early. Ate Uncle Ben’s rice and eggs w/ soy sauce, thanks @Jonathan. Gonna be hot today. Good luck to you all.
My buddies and daughters FT’d me from the start….they got great starting positions in the corral (right in front of Lachlan!).
They peeled the timing chip from my race number and stuck in one of their hydration packs, so I’ll get to “ride” with them….a really nice gesture.
Sounds like it is gonna be scorcher……good luck to all racing!!
Keegan is riding a 52T CR this year…![]()

But he still has a 1:1 bailout gear, which is what I had……but I doubt he ever uses it.
Interesting how he admits that the new Stig is a bit overkill for SBT and the champagne gravel……
My daughters just texted me….leaders just passed by them at mile 40. They are flying….that is way more than 20mph.
Not surprised since many of them don’t have Leadville miles in their legs like last year….
Through mile 58, a group of 5 has a one minute lead…includes Keegan, Payson, Roberge, Vakoc and Wertz
Avg 24mph…![]()
Geez, avg speed is more of road than gravel. Need to add more climbs or technical aspects ![]()
Interesting to note that Tiffany Cromwell is doing the Black Course this year instead of Blue….good chance to see how a WT rider stacks up against the best gravel riders.
ETA - Sofia either DNS or had an issue…I don’t see her anywhere on the first page of riders for the Female Black course as of mile 58. She was on the start list, though.
Sofia and Alexis have a 10min lead over the other women, her timing chip just isn’t reading
That makes more sense….seemed like a big lead for Alexis to have on her own at the mile 58 check. It was 6 min at the time and I just figured she had gotten onto a fast train of men.
Thanks for the update.
A bit off topic, but does anyone know how to access gears used as Keegan described in video… specifically for Di2 rides with Garmin?
Surprised he’s using an 830 and not 840. LOTS of wax on that chain, but don’t dip the quicklink. ![]()
I might switch my focus to gravel next year. SBT seems stupid expensive, but also looks like fun.
It is in line with any of the “marquee” gravel events….but it is exceptionally well-run and a spectacular course.
Plenty of smaller, local / regional races you can support, as well….for instance the Dustbowl 100 in Indiana is a fantastic race and less than $100.
Keegan repeats at SBT and wins by 2:20 over Vakoc.
Just on a different level.
I might have to move to the US to give the poor fella some competition.

Agree on both points. It’s party vibe all weekend. It really is a great event.
Beat my goal time in the Green course by :34 - and that’s after stopping to puke twice and pushing my bike the last half mile up the final climb.
If you passed me, thanks for all the encouragement. If you were in one of the two suuuuper unfortunate groups during the other times - sorry… and I survived!
My faster half is out there suffering in the heat of the day on Blue, somewhere between the water stop and aid 3.
Keegan and 11 other dudes were faster than his winning time last year.
WHAT FLAVOR OF OATMEAL DO THEY EAT FOR BREAKFAST?!
Ugh…glad you finished, though!! Nice job getting through some tough circumstances. Props for even starting!!
Looks like Sofia held off Tiffany by ~1 min….and Alexis finished 4th, over 10 min down. Sounds like it must have been some furious racing…looking forward to hearing the details.
Props to Lachlan for still being up there after doing Leadville straight into 6 days of Breck Epic (where he won GC), 1 day of recovery, then SBT. I’m sure it’s not harder than a WT stage race but at least there everyone you’re up against is doing the same thing. I imagine most everyone else at least took some rest between Leadville and SBT.
I’m sure a handful of amateurs did the same thing too which is crazy. That’s the craziest week (+1 day) of cycling I can think of on the US calendar.
