Saris H3 Discussion/Issues

I bought online thru one of Amazon’s stores named Bicycle Source US during the end of November discount craze because they were more than 20% off.

I just checked their online store now & they aren’t selling it anymore.

I sent Saris my invoice from Amazon when I contacted Support.

Saris is sending me the replacement directly.

I’m not sure how Clever Training is set up for returns for defective items.

However I understand they have a good reputation.

I purchased power meters from them but never had to return anything.

I am going to try and do it that route before clever if i get a response from saris. Sent the email on sat.

They should get back to you soon, it should be support@saris.com you could also try to shoot them a quick FB message if you’re on there.

Tried but no response yet. Heard from Clever which I will ship back at there expense but that means I will be out a trainer for a week or two. Going Saris route first.

Edit: just called direct to Saris and the guy that answered is going to start working on the claim. He said they were working there way through the support emails and I should have a resolution tomorrow.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone that contributed to this thread. It convinced me to stick with my 3 year old Kickr Snap and saved me hundreds of dollars.

I received my unit last Monday. So far I only rode 52.7 km (32.7 mile) without any issue.
I should try more to see if anything strange happens.

By the way, what’s your serial number? Mine is 191003xx. I hope it’s not in the bad batch.

You better get off the internet then as you will never buy anything again. Lol.

To Wahoo (past issues) and Saris’ credit (from what I hear on current units) they have great customer sevice.

I’ve recently replaced my 2 year old Kickr Snap with a reliable and well built H2. Super happy with the upgrade!

Because I know how these threads can often become an echo chamber of people with issues, I just thought I’d chime in with the fact that my H3 has been totally without problems since I got it three weeks ago.

same here! Went from the original Hammer to the H3. No issues, works as it should, and it’s definitely quieter.

Those good experiences with the H3 are encouraging!

Customer service has been great from Saris with my minor issue. Don’t have any doubts it will get sorted. I have still been riding with no problems besides the minor knocking sound.

I’ve had mine for a month now, and it works great. I’ve got the old pulley design, but I haven’t felt it slip in a while now. It has been dropping signal more recently, but that’s likely not the fault of the trainer.

I’ve also had mine for a month and recently started a SSB program with TR. No issues yet.

Two months in on my H3 and not a single issue - smooth and quiet.

Sounds good. I’m close to pulling the trigger on the H3. Luckily I live close to Saris and have found service, the very few times I need it, is awesome! They get customer service.

Gary, i’ve had the H3 for almost a month now and have put some serious watts through it with no issues. I got mine from REI which had them on sale about a month ago. Its extremely quiet and i have recommended it to many of my friends.

Hey all, received my H3 today. All I’ve done so far is update the firmware via the Saris app, and then did a spindown in the Rouvy app. I’m hoping to do a trainer road ride later tonight.
I did notice right away, when starting pedaling for the spin down, I can feel/hear the belt slip, but it goes away once the flywheel gets up to speed.
Question - for erg workouts like on Trainerroad, what gear are you guys/gals using? My understanding is that the small ring is supposed to give more accurate readings on the H3 due to the lower flywheel speed, but by doing that, you don’t get the nice smooth high speed feel of the heavy flywheel…

Thx!

Small ring and dead center of the cassette for me.

Small vs Large pros:

  1. It’s more quiet.
  2. It lets the resistance unit adjust to cadence changes more quickly, for better ERG control.
  3. It can tend to train more of the pedal circle for power development (definitely subjective and not true for everyone.
  4. Leaves the Small to Large ring shift for quick cadence control needed for mixing in standing efforts.
