On the bike I use latex tubes.
As a spare I take a good old butyl tube, nice and sturdy as replacing on the road in the cold, I might not be as careful putting it on.
Tubolito would be smaller/lighter, but at the moment that is just not an issue.

If you’re an aesthetics nerd, get an Aeroclam from https://www.cyckit.com/.
I use a Silva seat roll asymmetrico as it’s the lightest most flexible saddle bag I’ve found (can go from road to gravel to MTB easily).
If you can get away with a tool bidon you just don’t ride enough. Fine for a commute though if you don’t want your stuff stolen.
Left pocket food, middle pocket race Cape and gilet, right pocket phone, toe covers, buff, glasses wipe, keys. Tubes are now all TPU because all my bikes are tubeless and ive not put a tube in for…five years?
Saddlebag for me, especially after stuff in my pocket caused a wound that needed 7 stitches when I crashed!
People who slag the saddle bag are normally the first asking around when they have a mechanical…
It depends on what bike I’m on
Road bike & this all fits nicely into a rear pocket along with a small hand pump. About the size of 1 butyl inner tube.
Saddle bag Ranger 2.0 Large – Speedsleev
Contains all my “technical” stuff. The jersey is for jacket, phone and third water bottle. I just do not care about being right or wrong in terms of aesthetic- if I do not have tools, spare tube, or enough fuel and stand on the side of the road hopelessly waiting for uber or lying on the ground bonking, look of my bike does nothing for me. Not to mention that me, as a person, is not aesthetically pleasant enough to care about “rules” of cycling
Use whatever you find useful and works for you.
Short, local rides - pump, dart, multitool in my pocket. (Other two pockets are for food and phone).
Longer rides - same but plus saddle bag with spare tube, tyre levers, patches, quick link.
I have had a flat tire a few times, so I understand why you would bring a spare tube/patch kit, tire levers, and a pump/CO2. Never had a broken quick link (neither on my trainer nor on the road). Is it really needed to bring that?
Speed sleeve saddle bag for me. I’ve never agreed that having overstuffed jersey pockets looks cleaner than hanging a small bag off the saddle.
I personally feel the aesthetics of me with a repair kit, phone, and snacks in my pockets are more insulting to the vanity than a saddle bag, so I go with the latter.
Also minimizes my tendency to forget something
I haven’t had a broken chain either, but others I ride with had. Plus it weighs nothing, but it is really difficult to fix a chain without one.
Yup…that is the primary reason I use a saddle bag. I need my jersey pockets for other stuff. I’m sure some of it is location based, but I almost always need to have a place to stash a vest / jacket, arm / knee warmers, plus fuel (and my phone).
I also don’t like weighing down my jersey if I can help it…and stuffing tubes / co2 / repair kits in them just feels heavy to me.
All of the above is clearly subjective…to each their own.
I got a small Pactimo bag last year and it has been great…can stuff a surprising amount of crap into it and it still has a small profile. I don’t think they make it anymore, but it is basically the same as this bag from SpeedSleev…
I use both. I carry enough to survive if there’s a nuclear attack during my ride
Seat bag, who wants to look deformed with all the crap in their pockets? Mudguards to keep bike clean.
Me neither, but I have fixed the chains of two other random cyclists on the road. So I carry a 10 and 11 speed quick link just for good karma. (And a mini chain breaker.)
I used to have a saddle bag but my new bike has downtube storage which carries all my essential puncture repair gear including an extra tube, levers, patches, CO₂ inflator & cartridge. This has allowed me to carry the extra stuff I like to have in a Lezyne Caddy Sack - Small in my jersey pocket and get rid of the saddle bag. I’ve found this works well for me and I like the clean without the saddle bag. If it wasn’t for the downtube storage I would still be using the Topeak saddle bag which I used for years.
I used to run a sock in my jersey pocket, small multi tool, co2, and plugs.
Now I lead a group ride so carry 2x co2, 1x tube, maybe 2, plugs and a multi tool. I cram all of that in a silca mattone seat pack. Looks nice, holds tight and not rattles.
I used to run an Ortlieb saddle bag but recently bought a really cool top tube bag. So that’s what I use now
I never understand people who pack for the weekend every time they go for a ride. I carry a multi-tool, 3x CO2 and a dynaplug all in a little bag that fits in my jersey pocket. The other pockets are for the phone and for gels.
Same for road, same for XC.
Small silca saddle bag for me. I don’t want to feel the bulkiness in my pocket.
I love the idea of the keg but I’m not willing to give up my second bottle, especially in the summer.
I’d never give up 2nd bottle either. New road bike (Fezzari Empire) came with a 3rd cage that isn’t big enough except for small bottles. Perfect use for a keg. I do have a saddle bag that I’ll use on 3+ hour rides when I want a 3rd bottle so I don’t need to stop for water.
