For fit and comfort more than anything else I’m swapping the bars on my Epic Evo (2023) to a 31.8mm Thomson bar.
I ride XC /(very) light trail… wheels rarely if ever off the ground.
If I use a Roval Alpinist stem will I die…..?

I’ve used road stems on my XC bike in the past.
That I can’t answer, though..
I’ve been using that stem on my Epic 8 for the last few years, no issues so far!
I’m sure it’ll be fine..
..but if you want extra assurance along with the low weight, similar looks and are looking at the -6 (and not -12), the Cane Creak GXC might be worth a look.
The answer is always Kalloy Uno stem. Light, cheap, available in many places.
