RideNow TPU Inner Tubes

Are you guys using it, and if so, what is the feedback on those RideNow inner tubes sold at Amazon?

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0CGPR3FWL/ref=ewc_pr_img_1?smid=A3QW4MWGC8NS1&psc=1

I have a pair of training wheels that I’m willing to replace the butyl tubes for TPU, I was inclined to go tubolito, pirelli or Schwalbe. They’re a bit expensive though.

I found that RideNow for 35 CAD a pair at Amazon, I just couldn’t find any real experience with them.

Appreciate any feedback.

Thanks

Never tried tpu but I would go for one of these ultracheap ali express ones

I have them but never had to actually use them so hopefully they work

Carried one, used it once to get out of a sidewall slash situation, rode perfectly fine. Cleaned it and it’s back in the emergency kit. Recommended.

I started using RideNow TPUs on my climbing bike last year. My “A” event is 10 hours and I didn’t want to lose 4+ pounds of air from my latex tubes over that time period. I thought I would remove them after the event, but I didn’t bother.

They worked great. They don’t have quite as good a road feel as latex, and they have a bit of a sound to them, similar to the sound of carbon wheels. After I replaced those tires, I went back to latex for the ride feel. But I’ll be going back to the RideNow tubes in June for my long event.

They also make great spare tubes because of their weight. They are easy to mount because they are so slippery.

Thanks,

I am/was afraid because they cost 1/3 of a branded one. It seems that they work great.

Partly inspired by this thread, I’ve pulled the trigger on some RideNow TPU tubes. For butyl and tubeless I’ve always used the Silica Pressure Calculator, but it doesn’t give TPU as an option. Should I just use the latex option?

That’s what I did. No issues, felt fine.

I have them in saddle bags, take up half the space of a standard tube

Yeah, I actually ordered a spare too for that reason.

I like using Sram calculator, and I just checked and it also doesn’t have an option for latex/butyl/tpu. I assume inner tube would be all the same pressure.

I echo sentiments about their use as a backup vs carrying butyl. Normally run tubeless but bought some cheap ones off Ali Express and could not recommend them more. Lighter, take up much less space and easily cleaned up and rolled back to original shape to easily put away again. No doing that easily with butyl . If I needed to use long term I would without hesitation at this point but to be fair I do not have many mikes on them to comment on durability.

Carrying them for a spare, I protect them from abrasion by placing them in ziplock baggie.

I’ve seen others suggest a trainer/ toddler sock!

Going in my non-tubeless “good” wheels (which have an aluminium braking surface) for the early season events.

Same. I have a travel bike that I use tubes in (since I don’t want to get stranded on he side of the road with tubeless). Been running butyl tubes, but always planned to upgrade to latex. Opted for the TPU tubes instead. Will install them soon and see how the bike rides.

They are excellent for spares because you can pack a few into the same space as a butyl tube. The road feel is a bit shit compared to latex or tubeless though so I don’t run them for everyday riding.

Riding tubeless in all my bikes, and used cheap Aliexpress TPU ones before and now as spares. I didn’t want to pay the price of the Tubolito, and the ridenow are just fine.
Be just aware that they pinch flat easily when you place them (I did waste 2 of them like this).

Is this when installing? Mine arrived in the post and are waiting at home for me to replace butyl this evening.

Any tube is going to pinch flat if you bottom out due to inadequate air pressure. As far as pinch flatting due to an improper install, again any tube will. The TPU tubes are pretty difficult to install improperly (tube under tire) due to their pink color, and how slippery they are. Also like any tube, install goes a lot easier if you inflate by mouth (or carefully by pump) first.
