Red Light Green Light is now available to all TrainerRoad athletes! 🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉

TR support will give you a better answer than I can guess at, but that looks the same as the one time in my calendar when a 0IF, low TSS triggered a amber. At a guess the preceding days had enough TSS and power and a little more pushed you over the edge?

I had a yellow day before it, but the TSS on the ride above is lower. The one in question was during a yellow day and higher TSS. (I only ever ride outside with HR and no power). It just seems a little inconsistent and as mentioned I’m battered today

I thinking the lower TSS pushed you over the edge TSS wise.

The only ride (actually a day of 4 rides, commutes) I can find like that in my calendar is when I had a PM ride on Sunday pushing me into the Yellow on Monday. I usually commute on Tuesday (HR only) and I dont think I have ever seen the Wednesday (following day) go Yellow from a commute alone. But on this occasion my commute was moved to the Monday and the following day was triggered Yellow. Apologies if what I’ve typed is confusing, it a bit of a mess on screen :joy:

I’m on a typical, mid-volume masters plan. RLGL combined with Adaptive Training has been reducing my Sunday ride significantly. Ironically, the exception to this comes during my recovery week, when I get to ride what was originally prescribed. I like it.

I tried the low-volume plans for a few years and became convinced that a full recovery week wasn’t necessary for so little training stress during the hard weeks. I’m wondering if the low-volume and masters plans should be five weeks long instead of just four. (Or maybe Plan builder could let you request 5-week phases.)

In addition, Plan Builder shortens some phases to synchronize with an A event, always ending a shortened phase with another recovery week. After getting what seemed like four recovery weeks in two months, I changed my A event to a C event and scheduled an imaginary A event a month after the end of the season. Then I tried several back-dated start times for my plan so that I could eliminate unwanted recovery weeks. Sure, this also eliminates the specialty phase, but I’d rather have more complete base and build phases.

Its happened again but this time even more pronounced…

Considering I had a red day, and did a recovery ride AND gymnastics…I have a green light today, I would at least expect a yellow…?

TrainNow on PC is suggesting:

I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t make it through…but then again maybe I would, which might then nerf tomorrows…

I don’t like to come on here and complain, but red light green light is starting to be annoying.
I’ve been trying to get my volume up, any time I do a little bit “longer ride” instant red light the next day.
Mondays I’ll do a ride in the morning ( usually endurance 90-120mins) then will get another red light the next day.
If it looked at my history, it would see I’ve been doing this for years and sometimes in the last I would have an interval session and strength later in the day.
Another time I’ll get a red day; right now as well as trying to increase overall time. I’ll do 1 tempo ride a week and 1 long ride with a lot of sweet spot. Today was a 3 hour ride; 4x20 @ 90% ftp. I literally did this plus more 2 weeks ago, just at a lower ftp.
My training approach is aggressive and has one more notch.
I don’t use the TR plans and I get they don’t want people to “burn out”. It just seems like it doesn’t want me to actually try to improve my endurance.

Again, I love TR and everything and everyone involved. I hate complaining about TR but it seems way too conservative.

Thank you! I’m going to do that

I have RLGL set to balanced, have all year (2024) and have never received a Red day. For reference, I’ll hit nearly 900 training hours for 2024 and have multiple 1,000+ tss weeks. Also, I had a 7:20 hour MTB race with 407 tss and only received a yellow day following.

I say this to say that RLGL isn’t against raising your volume. Rather, it generally doesn’t like big jumps in tss and/or in back to back days that is out of your normal training. By normal training I’m referring to your normal weekly tss. However, if you just throw a couple big tss days every now and again you’ll likely get a red day. Or if you have a big tss day on a yellow day. Also, if you’re adding other activities (strength training) to your TR calendar it may do some odd things.

That hasn’t been my experience, but I’m glad it’s working out for you.

Why don’t you just throttle it back using the slider suggested?

Yeah just set it to “Aggressive” and see how that works out… If you keep doing it, it should get used to it anyway.

Outstanding explanation, @Caro.Gomez-Villafane. Very informative and helpful. Thank you! I’ll apply the long game concept to my own training.

Welcome :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Reporting back, now on the beginning of my 3rd month back to “training”.
Red light green light hasn’t given me a red or yellow day where it has the last couple months. We will see what happens this weekend when I do a big SS/ endurance day.
I will say it seems to have figured me out again. I never turned it off or changed if from one notch below full “aggressive”. :cowboy_hat_face:

It sounds like it’s working!

A post was merged into an existing topic: TrainerRoad - what do users expect / want in the future

Does Red light green light take into account future time off of training? I will be traveling for the next 4 days so trying to accumulate some TSS this weekend because I will not be able to ride.

Not sure how to flag this for the development team, but it would be great if red light would stop trying to adjust scheduled recovery rides.

I’ve got 30 min recovery rides (Dans) scheduled on Sundays after my long and hard Saturday rides. Every week, the system tries to delete my recovery ride. I mean, sure, I can decline the adjustment, but better to have the system recognize what is clearly a recovery ride. It does the same to my Monday easy spins (Pettit) which is also annoying.

No, but you are able to decide to ignore a red day if lots of rest is coming.
