My experience says it does learn.

A few years ago I was in good form, 6 wk avg TSS was 60-70 for the previous 3+ months and I did 500-700TSS weeks without any red days flagged

This year I’ve got back into training with little base, 29 avg 5 weeks ago, and it’s now 68. I’m getting red days where I don’t think I would have before.

I did two rides on Saturday….Croz inside in the trainer and then an outdoor gravel ride of about ~3 hours. Sunday was marked red (but honestly, I never checked the calendar since I need volume in prep for Unbound and my legs felt fine).

So on a red day, I did another ~3 hour gravel ride….but Monday (today) is only coming up as a yellow day. Seems that if I logged a 3 hour, 175 TSS day on a red day, the next day would also come up as red?

Or is it yellow since there is no workout on my plan? (Narrator: Will he ride at lunch anyway today since it will be in the mid-60’s? You’re damn right he will!)

A couple of week in, and I’m a big fan of the new system. I like it so much that I felt guilty when I rode on a red day Sunday, but the first day of the year with70 degree temps was just too nice to spend on the couch (I did make it an easy 1 hour ride, mostly Z2).

A question:
I see that the red day warning works with Train Now to strongly recommend against doing a workout. But I also noticed that when I did a Train Now on a yellow day, it recommended a productive Vo2Max workout. Shouldn’t it have automatically recommended an endurance workout, possibly an achievable workout?

Just signed up for Red Light/Green Light. Now I’m looking back at 2020 when I did the old SSB HV and wondering how I even survived, lol. This is a huge step forward for TR.

Feature request: Link RLGL to local weather feeds and turn any day like this automatically green. :grinning:

Update - that appears to be the reason why it was yellow and not red. After my (oh-so-easy) lunch ride, they system now flagged tomorrow as a yellow day as well.

(Yes, I will be riding tomorrow. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:…but it will just be easy recovery miles)

LOL! This would be the feature add of the year! Nobody should be on the couch when conditions are perfect, even if you did 4 hours of 30/30s yesterday!

I made a bad decision and put my name in the Unbound 100 lottery and got in. After a Fall/Winter of hardly doing any riding. I’m on the Masters Base 2 Low volume. On Mondays and Wednesdays I do a very low endurance ride for an hour. I’ve received a couple yellows and no reds so am I safe or could this screw up my planned training?

If you’re able to do endurance on the yellow days, you should be fine

We can take that one step further: Link to local weather forecasts & rearrange the week so that outdoor rides are scheduled on fine days, & the majority of yellow (or almost-yellow) days fall on rainy days.

I checked in with the team on this one to confirm – “Balanced” was indeed the default setting before the slider was introduced. If you want to continue to see the same behavior as your past rides pre-slider implementation, you should leave it on “Balanced.”

Here’s something to consider. Time off / Illness?

Looking at my last 2 weeks, I’ve had a bit of a lurgy but have been pushing through it a bit. This week has been tough, especially today. Today I had a VO2 scheduled and fully expected to have to bail on it, which I did, then I did Taku, and even that felt hard! (Currently even my Croc Slippers feel heavy! (Yes, they are a thing)) However I marked them both as “Illness” and would fully expect RLGL to give me at least a yellow tomorrow, if not a red. But its giving me green!

Is this because I don’t have anything scheduled or do we think it should be giving me at least a yellow if not red?

No, you would get a yellow/red whether you had something scheduled or not. It appears RLGL is not dependent on survey responses. Possibly it is more dependent on load/volume relative to your recent workouts/rides. With you being ill, your work load just isn’t high enough to generate a yellow/red day. I do think survey responses should be considered though.

What is illness, it could be anything from a passing headache to the flu that prevented a ride being completed. There isn’t sufficient information for the system to workout whether to flag the following day(s).

  • They already are at some level.

It may still be an open question though with regards to what exactly RLGL does in distinguishing between any of the options. Per the above, how it considers something like Illness, Intensity and such within the “Struggle” survey are likely to need different RLGL response and I don’t think we know any detail there.

Additionally, it can’t currently take into account the added fatigue of the gymnastics sessions (which can be pretty heavy!).

I kind of figured the system might think “Hey, you’ve failed/bailed a workout and labelled a simple endurance session as “hard”, Oh! AND you’ve been ill! You should consider a rest day”.

My understanding is that RLGL measures training stress, not life stress, illness, lack of sleep. etc. We still need to use discernment in those other aspects of our lives and make adjustments accordingly.

Wow. High expectations.

Not from what I have seen, but its only been active for 3 weeks?

My guess is that the 56 TSS accrued between Taku & the incomplete Sleeping Beauty +2 was not enough to trigger a yellow, when the 77 from Firstview was, & RLGL doesn’t care about the annotation, nor does it know that your capacity to work has dropped off so suddenly.
Please take it easy whilst you’ve got a respiratory condition, & even for a few days afterwards. When I caught the dreaded 'rona I was holed up for a week, getting antsy, & finally went out for a ride once “allowed”. Legs felt fantastic, just like they’d had the week off. Lungs felt like I’d spent the last decade drinking, smoking, & watching cricket. I wasn’t on TR at the time, but if I was on a plan I would’ve just ignored the workouts & filled in the annotation later.
