Yet it picked galena-1 (1h15). This didn’t fit with my schedule, as I only had 1h to train.
I tried to pick another workout (workouts → zone → sweet spot intervals), but this picked the same workout.
which led me to
The workout list picker is significantly worse, as it no longer allows setting multiple filters, and only shows “sorted list” per metric. I would typically use the following filters to only show workouts fitting all conditions, such as
If you click on the little banner on top of that workout with the clock(monopoly card) you can select between the original one hour workout or the recommended 1 hour and 15 minute workout. This works the same with any change in your calendar.
The AI thinks you would be better served by the work in the longer workout, but you can still self select the other option. It will even explain its reasoning when you click on that card.
Thanks, I hadn’t seen that. I feel like it probably should be the default though. In my use case, there is no way a sorted list (by one factor only) containing tons of elements will ever be useful.
The filters are missingdifficulty, which at least for me is of a much better use than workout level (I don’t normally know what level I’m at - particularly since it (rightly so) changes frequently, but often I just want to pick something above or below my level, and difficulty made that easy to do.
The point is I did pick 1h the 2nd time around (using the ai workout picker, after seeing that the workout done by the plan was 1h15 instead of 1h), and it “silently” picked one of 1h15 for me. I only realised after starting the workout, and had to cancel (as it would finish too late).
Not a good user experience at all.
We’ll recommend longer workouts if we think that’s the better option for you.
Below you can see how I’m being recommended a 90-minute workout in place of a 60-minute one, since that is actually a better workout for me on that day than any 60-minute TR workout that meets the specific criteria.
If I don’t have time or want to do that 90-minute workout, I can just click the monopoly card ( 1:00 Duration button attached to the workout), and it will switch that workout to the best 60-minute workout available.
Thank you. I didn’t see that, but will pay more attention next time.
Somehow, I’d prefer if the standard workout was kept (I have my days organised for the duration, and normally don’t check workouts in advance until I get to the iPad mini on my trainer), and the longer duration was suggested quite clearly.
When picking a different workout, I’m pretty sure that I picked 1:00 on the AI workout picker, and was given a 1:15. That felt quite frustrating, as I’ll generally pick the time I have available to train.
Thanks!
I think something like the same interface that used to suggest a lower workout on high intensity days would be good (e.g. “planned workout of planned duration” → “suggested workout of different duration”).
Can you please have the team add the “difficulty” factor back in the filters, or was it intentionally removed?
Difficulty ratings were actually pulled quite a while ago.
We recommend using the TR AI workout selector moving forward. You can filter through each subtype of workout to find what you’re looking for, and we’ll recommend which of those workouts are best for you.
I might have missed something then. How should I use “level” then? I thought difficulty was just a comparison to the workout level, and my current level (which has handy to decide if I wanted to “push a bit” or “pick something easy”).
If there’s a link explaining that I’d be happy to read and inform myself.
You can still filter through workouts by level if you’d like, but again, if you’re looking for the right workout in a specific zone or workout type, say long suprathreshold, as shown below, simply click on it and click schedule. We’ll put the most productive workout with the duration of your choosing in place for you.
I just realized that if you turn Workout Extension off in your account settings, it will do what you’re looking for by keeping the planned workout in place, but showing the recommended duration in the monopoly card as an option.
I found that previsouly the difficulty rating would allow me to schedule something a bit above my current level, or a bit below. I can accept that’s the wrong approach.
I found difficulty to be a good indicator of that though. If I were to do the same thing, I’d have to:
1 - go to career, and check my current level
2- then pick a workout that’s a bit below, or a bit above.
This approach has a lot more clicks than using difficulty, which automatically filtered for that. For instance, if I wanted something “productive”, I would filter for that, and would then just have the list seen the workouts by increasing level of difficulty above my current level, which was neat. E.g., If the first “productive” worktout started at 3.0, I would know that my current PL was around that, and picking a 3.5 would be a decent progression.
I can see how that doesn’t tie with AI (which I can see if it works well would negate the need for doing what I’m doing.
I agree, I’m really having trouble with the new workout picker. It’s not a good experience, esp on mobile.
I’m a busy, working, new mom, and currently not following a training plan. I am just trying to get cardio in a few days a week while I regain fitness.
I used to be able to filter on time and type AND difficulty (like 0:30, Sweet spot, Productive) and get a great workout going in seconds. Now have to go check my progression level to filter based on the numerical level. And even when I do that I don’t feel like the AI options are showing me everything available?
The main thing that has changed is the labels like productive and achievable, which were just based on the workout’s similarity to your level, have been replaced with a difficulty prediction, which is a lot more personalized and accounts for things like fatigue, training history, etc.
For your situation, you should be able to select a zone or category from the “Workouts" tab, then you’ll be asked how long it should be. The AI will pick a workout automatically that it thinks will be the most productive for you on that day.
If the kids are giving you a rough day, you can click a workout and scroll down to see alternates. Select “Easier” from the drop down. That’s kind of like “achievable” from before. Select “Harder” for a stretch or breakthrough.
If you don’t care about the exact workout category, it’s probably easier to use the “TrainNow" tab, which sounds like it matches how you train. Select a duration and get 3 recommended workouts. You should be going in seconds.
