Recommend me a good place for camping with a kid and cycling in Europe

I’m going camping together with my 11 year old daughter again this year. This time I think I will bring my road bike. She just wants a place to relax and swim. I would like to do the occasional ride, not too long (2-3h) because I don’t want to leave her alone too long. Preferably not too far from the Amsterdamarea, so Southern France, Northern Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Czech Republic are about as far as I can manage (I think I’ll skip Switzerland due to price and my daughter had already been there last month with her mother) Poland are about as far as I can manage

not on your list, but still suggesting it: What about the Mueritz Lake area - about 2hrs north of Berlin. I went there to the city of Waren few times with our RV. Huge lake for swimming and also great opportunities to go cycling (check Komoot).

My girlfriend is going to Rügen, she’ll probably think I’m obsessively following her around  Lübeck is still on my bucket list though…

no matter where you end up in the end - hope you enjoy

Jura alps will suit your needs.

A that was my default "I don’t know where to go, so I’ll go there option ". Last year I had no clue either but I figured I wanted to see Colmar and picked the closed lake to Colmar which happened to be in Xonrupt-Longemer, apparently a cycling Mekka (but I didn’t bring my bike and I don’tlike going t o the same place). Does the Jura have the beauty and quaintness of the Alsace?

Have a look at St Jean de Luz, just below Biarritz, in South West France. Safe beaches and good climbing rides. Can also do flatter rides north and south. Looks like lots of camping places.

South of Munich in the Austrian border area has a bunch of great lakes and roads

I think northern Spain could be a great option for your camping trip that allows some riding. Your daughter can easily realx and swim in Cantabria regions. There are a lot of beaches like Orinon and Oyambore. Also, it’s the perfect place for 2-3 hour rides. The weather should be sunny and warm in the summer. Lots of camping sites too. If you are comfortable driving to Italy, you can easily drive to northern Spain. You’d be right near San Sebastian too, which is such a lovely city to explore. Your daughter might even want to come along for some of the flatter rides. You can read this article I found online at Tourism In Spain Statistics 2024: Your In Depth Travel Guide | GoWithGuide to get more information about Spain.

Annecy - beautiful town, watersports, lovely cycle path around the lake for easy days and you’re at the foot of many beautiful climbs

Spent our honeymoon camping by the lake 10 years ago, one of my favourite places

Unfortunately Annecy is one of those places you need to book ahead. Ultimately I ended up by chance just out of Barcelonnette, I never heard of it but the cycling was beautiful and with a few very popular climbs nearby and plenty of other activities on the camping for my daughter to keep her busy in the morning

My picks from out lovely Slovenia.

Northern Germany, but not the coast, could be a good place. I live in Lüneburg and it’s beautiful, good (if flat) riding, and lots of small lakes to swim in. If you want somewhere bigger Schwerin is worth a look. A lovely city and surrounded by bigger lakes.

I’d suggest valsugana Escape to the Great Outdoors with Holidays in Trentino EN it’s in the north of italy. Two lakes with campings and many dutch turists. There’s a 80km+ cyclepath on the flat and many climbs, some of them with very few cars
