Reactive Hypoglycemia after morning ride with carbs

You are suggesting morning rides without caffeine? What are you, a psychopath?? Yes, I do have a caffeine addiction.

Not an expert, but after reading some comments I can share what I eat before working out. Either a half or whole toasted bagel, with peanut butter, honey and banana on it. My stomach tolerates it well and I never have issues. Lots of folks posting here who know better than me if that could work for you or not?

I’m so happy I found this thread as this is something that happens to me at times but I’ve never had a name for it.

A couple of things I’ve noticed for me:

It only occurs after morning rides (for me)
It only occurs after very intense interval sessions (usually very hard VO2 intervals)

My typical morning routine is an americano (double shot of espresso w/water) and right onto the trainer within 30 minutes of working out and use a self made drink mix between 60g - 90g of carbs.

I guess I’ll start tracking a few things, mainly when it happens and what were the events leading up to it.

I will experience the same thing, although for me it is more common after a long ride. If I eat immediately after, but then nothing for 60 - 90 min, my blood sugar will crash.

My solution is after riding I might sip on any left over drink mix a little while cleaning up and putting stuff away. Sometimes I may also need to drive home if out at the trails. After about 15 minutes or so, basically when I’m really starting to cool down, then I’ll start sipping on a recovery drink. This might be chocolate milk or something like Skratch Recovery Mix. I’ll slowly drink this over the next 30 - 60 minutes. This typically keeps my sugars from bottoming out.

If I somehow misjudge things and I feel the lightheadedness coming on, some fruit or raisins works well and are handy to keep around.
