Quick question about workouts

hey guys, i am kinda new to this. been doing more sweet spot stuff instead of hard threshold days and it feels better, but not sure if that actually makes sense long term. anyone else do this or am i missing something obvious?

It makes sense that it feels better.

At some point you’re going to have to go harder, but there’s nothing stopping you from doing sweetspot instead of threshold and then doing VO2 Max and Anaerobic later on to build your top end.

You’ll need to do more time in zone at sweetspot, though. Ideally you’d work out to about an hour of TIZ for threshold. For roughly equivalent stimulus at sweetspot you’re looking at at least 90 minutes.

That makes sense, thanks for explaining the time in zone part. I will stick with sweet spot for now and build up the duration, then add harder work later.

I mostly do sweetspot as i find it the most enjoyable pace and it’s the best balance of “hard enough” and “not too demanding” for me. I have done enough VO2 max efforts over the years though to drag the ceiling up.

I think of SS as pretty useful training because it’s the speed i’ll tend to ride at when i’m outdoors or Zwift racing and i can hold the pace for 90 mins at a time so it obviously works.

Do the workouts that you enjoy most. If you want to get seriously fast then you need to be serious about training. But for most of us “good enough” is good enough.

(For context I am M55, 4.1 w/kg on about 4-5 hours per week.)
