Progression Levels now in Strava Images

If you are posting things to Strava then surely “personal” data becomes somewhat of a poor argument considering you choose to display things in that social platform.

Toggling on/off is a different question but if you link Strava and TR you just be OK with some personal information going out onto the inter webs.

Now if the argument is “I only use my Strava to have outside TSS go on my TR calendar and don’t display anything to my followers” than it won’t matter anyway, b/c they never see when you train anyway.

Not a lawyer, just my two cents.

I’m not a fan of this at all. Now all the guys I race against can instantly see specifically what I’m working on. At least before they had to look at all my workouts and put the puzzle pieces together. So now I need to either delete the workout picture after every ride or go ghost on Strava.

This is what happens when @Nate_Pearson isn’t on the podcast to let us know what is coming, the thread only gets 126 comments :grinning:. I don’t mind posting my levels, but I am pleased to see the option to turn it off will come for those who need it.

Lawyers… let’s all calm down :joy::joy::joy:

I may need to take a vacation from the forum, just seems like so many are constantly offended by everything and suck the fun out of a simple thing to add some flair to the simple Strava images.

yeah I’m sure everyone is taking notes

I can confirm turning off the TR “partner integration” on Strava stops the graphic whilst still uploading the workout as normal.

Gets rid of all the old ones from previous rides too though which is a shame.

You can add an option to show the FTP in the graph as well.

Would also be nice if you added a short description of the workout as well, like “4x15 min @ 94%”.

Before I saying anything else, I want to lead with saying I’m a huge fan of TR’s agile development strategy, willingness to deploy new features, consume feedback, and adapt. As someone in the industry, I think you guys are doing it right.

Now with that said…

Like a few others here I think you guys should have held off your go-live until you had the ability to hide progression levels.

It’s a cool feature, and many won’t have an issue with it, but automatically sharing more personal information with no off-switch is a bit of an anti-pattern. If you were super eager to launch this as-is you could have done so behind your beta feature toggles, and those who wanted to opt-in could have until it was fully baked.

I think it’s great. So all voices are heard. And with that said, go ahead and bring back the FTP on the screen shot too. I am what I am and proud of it.

Some people really do worry about the small stuff. Who cares?

I don’t get the angst tbh.

I think it is nice to know what you are sharing before you share it.

Better not start sharing the survey responses to Strava, I guess :zipper_mouth_face:

People already share the image though surely and their followers can just look into their rides and see their data, how much extra is the image actually showing?

It’s not like we’re world tour pros

I dont care if they dig…I just didnt think it is appropriate. Nothing wrong with my levels but I have no desire to broadcast it.

Y’all can delete the image, mute the activity or set it to private.

If someone really wanted to determine your performance leading into a race they could scroll your activities and put together your strengths/weaknesses. If they have TR they can look up the ride you did, determine % of FTP and look at your performance stats and put it all together. Not to mention someone can look up the PLs of the workouts you’re completing. This really doesn’t show information that wasn’t already there.

I’m a fan, and the image looks good.

Have thought this for ages. To actually believe that a rival will go the lengths of studying the trend of levels and think “ooh I see Johnny is doing some anaerobic work this month so I’d better do the same” and that it wouid have any effect in any event which actually matters as an amateur racer is beyond ridiculous.

@ValeCyclist - I’ve been watching and analyzing every post, every workout you do… We’ve yet to race each other, but when we do, you can trust I will be prepared to crush you. With this new feature, my plans are coming along nicely, very nicely. And you know what? I am not the only one tracking your every move…
