Progression Levels now in Strava Images

I don’t mind the progression levels too much on the image. But then I need a better understanding what it all means. It seems that non-scheduled trainerroad workouts (just cycling a long day on Saturday), is not included in these progression levels.
I still think trainingpeaks is better in tracking all the fatigue and progress by including ALL the things we do.
It would be nice that at least other cycling power data (that might be pulled from 3rd parties like Strava / Wahoo / Garmin, are included in the progression levels.
It would be even better if non-cycling workouts (swimming, running, etc) with an estimated tss from cross training would be included.

  • As of now, that is officially an “unstructured ride” and not counted in PL’s.
  • There is active development (top priority per Nate) to make TR analyze these types of rides and impact PL’s, but we don’t know when that will be released.
  • Yes, and that is why it is their #1 priority at the moment.

Yesterday, Elwell +1 was DNF for me. Neither my PL levels nor my failed workout graphic (4 of 7 intervals) posted on Strava. Just the name. So at least they’re not public shaming (yet?)

The average non-TR user doesn’t really know what the blue-on-black images mean either. That the line in the middle is your FTP (wazzat?), etc. Again - the objective is 2-fold: if you’re a TR user and you see another user’s Strava posts, you know what this is, and it speaks to you; if not, you see TR’s visual signature, TR’s name, and people you know (maybe) using it, all good things marketing-wise.
Same for PLs. If you know what they mean, you can appreciate the content; otherwise, it generates questions that can lead you to find out more about this TrainerRoad thing. And that is the goal here.

We found a race condition on why some of the images aren’t getting uploaded. We’re working to fix that.

Since we released this, 0.2% of our athletes have turned off Strava Images and/or Progression levels. I think almost every one of you is in this thread .

If you’re worried about your competitors seeing your data you should not have a public Strava account and/or don’t push TR workouts to Strava.

PLs by themselves are of no value to competitors. You can be a PL threshold 1 but have a 420 watt FTP. That doesn’t mean you aren’t strong as fuck or can’t drop everyone.

If you want to see how strong someone is just click into their workout and see what wattage they are doing intervals at.

I’ve scanned race regs for crits, looked them up on Strava, then looked at their repeat Vo2 max intervals to try to guess how strong they are. :joy:

I then marked the strongest people.

Another tip…if you WANT to mess with your competitors and you don’t think they will do the due diligence, then raise your FTP a bunch and have your PL goes to 1s.

But…you can actually do some of the workouts at the exact same wattage . IE instead of doing a VO2 8 at 120% you’re doing a VO2 2 at 115%…but if you do the math right the watts you are doing at are at the same level. :smiling_imp:

If they just click into your workout and see the watts it doesn’t work. :man_shrugging:

Question for ya’ll. What do you think about showing the progression level(s) of the workout in the description? Like this .

This would only be for people who have progression levels showing on Strava. So if you don’t have progression levels on, please don’t vote.

  • Add PLs to the description
  • Do nothing

P.S. This poll won’t be the final decision. We’ll use it as data to help inform a decision.
P.S.S. Yes, this is for the upcoming feature where you get credit in multiple progression levels for a workout.

I think PL’s of the Workout in the description is fine. I also think PL of the Workout as part of the image is also fine (the primary PL at the least).

Also, agree with your sentiment. If people want to see how strong you are, they can literally look at the workout and see how many Watts you were holding for how long :man_facepalming:.
I just don’t want (personally) the PL’s popping up that I’m not working on. It just looks busy, and is somewhat irrelevant to see Anaerobic or even VO2 PL after a long Sweet Spot workout.

Just my 2c.

(I’m more than happy to share the TrainerRoad love on Strava and promote it to my training buddies, it’s purely an aesthetic thing for me)

All images uploaded through partner integration in Strava have a tag showing their source - it’s a white box at the top left of the image, says “TrainerRoad” or “Zwift” or whatever.

In accepting the association of you TR and Strava accounts, you enable TR to send health data to Strava.

It’s implicit based upon the fact that if you connect a heart rate monitor for use with your TR workout, that it will also be sent to Strava along with the power data.

Disconnect, and connect again. My setup is in French, but under the data sent to Strava, states “authorize access to data related to health” (my own translation).

Got a quick grab:

pt 2:

Love it, Amazing, Everything that Nate does is art. Maybe I don’t care enough one way or another but I like having a little more to look at on those workout vignettes.

The disco and reconn is just a quick way to repeat the process.

I can’t speak to the documentation on the TR side.

This was just to show what one agrees to when connecting. Which happens to be different from what one sees once connected.

It does on my Strava feed but it’s all relative to my FTP which only I know, so I am not really bovvered (in the words of Catherine Tate) by TR publishing them to Strava. If I wanted to use them tactically I think I would drop my FTP so I could get higher PLs but in doing so I would only be really affecting myself.

I prefer the image

Interesting as my forum account/Strava user name and TR user name account are not linked so the only person letting my FTP slip is me posting screenshots. D@mm that’s my season over and it’s not even started :joy:

Unfortunately I am down south at the moment or I would have loved too :+1:

I’ve lost all TR images since Monday. No TR images are uploaded in Strava, just the ride title. Anyone else have this problem?
