Pro Cycling Thread 2024

What is the issue? This thread is a discussion on pro cycling so if it relates to pro cycling, sure? Your question is somewhat peculiar so it is hard to answer.

Sorry I didn’t want to lay part of it out without developing it a bit further. My initial thoughts were/are:

I want to go from cradel to grave so to speak in all facets how are we set up at home in the USA how do we develop from peewee to pro, fund raise, recruit, with end result being having cyclists not only compete but be the #1 rider on teams world tour teams…A few years ago I looked at USA Wrestling Boxing and Cycling websites cycling was a joke…It’s better now but still inadequate. during the Giro I did a quick perusal when I heard British Cycling has a satellite training center on the European continent Italy I think…Where is ours? Wrestling and boxing have regular international competition cycling is limited and I don’t recall anything on the website about international plans…
I heard that USA MTB is going to move its HQ to Arkansas because the Waltons wanted to support MTB hmmmm okay but why are we splitting USA cycling or are they split or were they ever united? I don’t know where road is based…
Like I is said I’m just my initial investigation but something seems array in Denmark…
I mean we have a hugh pool to draw talent 360million…richest country in the history of mankind at least three of the richest men maybe more in the history of the world…and we can’t figure out how to Recruit, develop, train fundraise and put a competive primarly American team together…
Anyways that was were I want to go but refine a few things and confirm or deny others… what do you think new thread

Make a new thread. This one is for discussion of professional cycling events and results. Seems you want to discuss how to better develop cycling in the states. Separate topic IMO

I really hope they start enforcing that rule more… They mostly seem to use it if something happens, but very rarely if there was no crash or no near crash because of it, which just leads to the Sprinters taking the risk and doing these deviations all the time. Sprints and the run in are dangerous enough without that stuff.

Yep agree thanks stay tuned more to follow :upside_down_face:

Who wants to overreact with me about how Vingegaard can’t win a Dauphine TT.

I don’t think it actually means much of anything for the TdF since that’s much more about who is strong for all 3 weeks not day 3 of a prep race that he may have come into with a very high load. That said, I feel like Pogi or certainly Remco would have crushed everyone in the same situation.

It’ll be interesting to see how he performs in the upcoming mountain stages. Up to this point it kinda feels like he just wants to stretch his legs pre-tdf as opposed going out to win and dominate.

What this all means… I guess we’ll find out

Who wants to overreact with me about how Vingegaard can put 30 seconds into the peloton on a Dauphine puncheur stage? I assume JV and Pog will both be looking good next month. Let’s hope so for a good race.

I initially wondered why he was going so hard today. I think he’s just trying to get as much out of this race as possible and another Dauphine stage is still nice to get.

Does anyone know what the red drink Jumbo–Visma have post-stage is?
From the colour look like beetroot juice

My guess is some beetroot + ketone mix.
I heard they prefer to use ketones for recovery rather then before/during racing.

Strong sprint from Girmay. Well timed and held onto.

In an interview with one of their nutricionists they said it was super concentrated cherry juice

Tragic news from the Tour of Switzerland. Gino Mäder of Bahrain Victorius died after a crash on the last, very sketchy, descent on yesterdays stage.

There was nothing sketchy about descent itself. Sketchy was a stage ending with descent meaning that riders will push there to the limit to minimize any time losses.

Absolutely heartbreaking

I know the Albulapass very well. Like many passes in rich Switzerland the road is in excellent conditions. The road is wide and the bends are not extreme. There is absolutely nothing sketchy about this road.

Yes you and OldFish are absolutely correct. The decision to have it at the end of a stage was what made it risky/sketchy (made the riders take great risks), not the road itself.
