Yeah, I think this is exactly what happened. If you watch the replay from that, you can see the gel that was taped to the bottle hit the ground when he grabbed the bottle.
Ooof……
Super bummed my boy Wout couldn’t bring it to the track and duke it out with MVDP. Can only shrug and say that’s racing.
I will say though, MVDP had LEGS today with all of those attacks. A well earned win.
Where is De Lie?
Why, it could be years?
I swapped from Sky to GCN+ with VPN. Light years better… also far cheaper.
Either that, or it was a carb bottle when he wanted pure water or vice versa
Pog.
Damn…what else can you say?
Huge ride by Ben Heath to drop Pidcock and take 2nd place.
I was personally impressed by his slugging the beer in one gulp on the podium
I hate to say it but any excitement I had for the race was all but extinguished once I saw the start list. With Pog and no other truly big hitters there the result felt like a formality barring a crash or major mechanical.
Piddock was there sure, but he’s been derailed by his crash at Tirreno.
Even without his Tirreno crash, Pidcock is no match for a fit Pogacar. Remember, Pidcock himself said he was “born for MTB racing”…he didn’t mention road/CX racing.
Just curious - for the 2023 Ardennes week who are you thinking of as the other truly big hitters? You’re crossing Pidcock off, Remco is in GT prep…who could’ve toed the line and been on Pog’s level (or close) this year?
MvdP or Wout if they had skipped Paris Roubaix. They are the only ones who could have pushed Pog at Amstel.
I’m not sure they could’ve although it certainly would’ve made the race more interesting. Pog is reportedly racing about 1 kg lighter than at Flanders and was able to drop them there on a flatter course.
Don’t like pog as much for fleche though
This explains why he refused the frites after Flanders.
He didn’t mess around downing the Amstel after the Gold race though
Yeah unless Remco is on super form I don’t really see many people being able to beat Pog at LBL, but shit can happen and his peak is now really long, but it’s Pog so he probably can hold it until next Sunday…
I would agree for fleche, but most of the top Puncheurs that I would rate for fleche over Pog seem to be either not at the race of not in form… So I can see him Win it but it is for sure the race where his chances are the lowest.
Well. He defied our expectations yet again. Even Lanterne Route will be eating crow this week…
Uh-oh…Pog out of Liege.
Remco looking positively Pog-esque…based on the way both rode Pidcock off their wheel, it is shame we couldn’t see them go head to head today. I think Pog would still have won, but it would have been entertaining I think,
Update on Pog…fractured wrist which will require surgery.
Arguably, this is a good thing for him…I was wondering if he was doing too much (again), leaving him vulnerable in July. An enforced break may be just what he needs.
