Pro Cycling 2025

Milan needs to race everything

Just wanna chime in and say I appreciate the recap. It’s getting harder and harder to find pro cycling coverage (for free) and comments like this are greatly appreciated.

This was gut wrenching to hear. He has been on a very long road to recovery since his last crash and as you said he was starting to see some of his old form come back.

This can be an unforgiving sport sometimes…

I was shocked that he held on in that up hill for as long as he did. The size difference was comical.

It was simply amazing to watch. Is he thinner then last year?

I’d be willing to pay for Peacock to SEE the TdF, but I absolutely cannot stand to LISTEN to any of those idiots speak. Does anyone live stream audio commentary? ie, mute Peacock, listen to… anybody else (preferably in English)?

I don’t know if he is any thinner. He’s just a big guy.

If anyone wants to follow along with some friendly banter and reels taking the micky out of the pros head over and give Burges and His bike a follow on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/burgess_and_his_bike?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw==

looking forwards to what the season produces

What. Just. Happened?!

Edit: The end of Stage 1 of Algarve the majority of the peloton took a wrong turn in a traffic circle and rode down the wrong road, parallel to the flamme rouge, for the sprint finish. I don’t have words.

Just mute the TV and do your own commentary. Phil will need to be replaced (soon), and having your patter down will give you a leg up on the competition. (Sarcasm! But my wife suggests this to me regularly, as the NBC/Peacock commentators make me want to bang my head against the wall.)

I am absolutely gobsmacked. It is a miracle no one got hurt.

That was the most insane finish I have ever seen…WTAF!!!

How is the finishing chute in the final KM not clearly barricaded?

Update - the annulled the results from the stage. No winner.

Ganna got robbed. He did the right thing and followed the course. You can clearly see the marshals signaling them to go to the left in the replay.

I think annulling the results was the right thing to do and don’t neccesarily think Ganna got robbed. While he and a small number of riders went the ride way the peloton should never been a situation to figure out which way to go in a sprint finish when chaos is at its height.

Here you can see a single marshall signaling the correct direction:

Then you can see one of the motor bikes going the ā€œwrongā€ way and the Peloton is thinking that is the race route:

Another perspective where you can see a lone marshall at the turn:

I understand that the ā€œwrongā€ way is where the team cars and race vehicles go but I still contend that it should have been clearer they had to go left. Especially since it was the entrance/exit of a traffic circle and not a traditional 90 degree turn for the a vehicles to exit.

Seeing them climbing over the barriers to get back onto the course… Wowzers.

I do not think that annulling the results was the right thing to do.
Give Ganna the jersey and the UCI points. Credit everyone in the peloton with the same finish time. What’s the downside with that?

There’s no option other than annulling the results imo. Ganna was strong and smart to cross the line first, but he was also very lucky

Fully 2/3 of the peloton would’ve had no choice on the route around that roundabout, including nearly every rider in the top 30 positions. Only those on the extreme left (or those on the front) could choose correctly, the rest couldn’t follow the course even if they were aware of the error being made

I have not watched the full race, but I understand there was a nice battle for KOM points. Why should the winner of that classification be robbed of the points and jersey?

I honestly do not understand the rational behind annulation.

Yeah, but those 2/3 of the peloton were not gonna be contesting the win at that point, so if everyone gets the same time, there is no harm to them. The front made the wrong choice and the finish had been used before, so most of the riders (and the teams!) should have known what to do.
