Please do not enforce plan builder?

This is an interesting topic. I just opened a TR account and tried to build a plan. When I looked at the three phases on the bottom I chose “build phase” because I already have a base. Then it started showing this notification. So I opened a support request asking why it was doing that since I thought I built a plan. They had me delete the build plan and recreate a three phase one using plan builder. Not entirely sure that this is the best thing for me but good to see other people are confused as well and even better seeing TR has addressed the confusion!

I would respond and clarify but something tells me it’s not going to make a difference so, not going to waste my time.

Mmm, are you not a subscriber to the theory that if you raise the roof you can raise the ceiling of the room below it? You get my drift hopefully

Not relating to this thread but in general this is spot on.

@ValeCyclist “not related to the thread”: fair point. Was related to one of the comments further up though ^^

If my FTP was over 85% of MAP, I could already ride threshold, sweetspot and high tempo with excellent TTE… and I had a lot of time out from the GF, then sure I’d consider doing some anaerobic workouts.

However, my point was that addressing “weaknesses” on a power curve isn’t how to train for specific events. Should a track sprinter work on their crappy 2 hour power in order to win on the track?

I see your point. If the OP wanted to cruise around his sportive though a higher FTP (which may or may not be gained by doing some high intensity work ) would enable them to do this. Maybe this is what they had in mind.

Just read this thread today. Noticed the change. Loved it. Can see why it pissed some people off. Problem voiced! Problem almost immediately fixed! Amazing service and amazing attitudes from Nate and team! More value added no matter what side of issue you are on.

Way to go TR!!!

This needs to be at the top. The responsiveness was much faster than I’ve seen from other companies In a looong time.

Well done TR team.

Yay! I wouldn’t have a subscription at all if plan builder was mandatory.

I have to admit, I still like so much about Training Peaks that I use it to collect my data and all. I’m actually using TR to search workouts to suit my needs. Might make the jump fully one day, but even then, oh my, plan builder being mandatory would 100% be a no go.

Just my two bits here, but I think y’all can relax. TR gives you a plan builder, AND individual plan blocks, AND individual workouts, AND a workout creator so you can cook up your own. They offer choices (even in ramp/8min/20min FTP tests), but don’t appear to make anything at all obligatory.

I don’t see them making Plan Builder mandatory, ever. They need to help their more novice riders who don’t have coaches or experience, and they also know they have expert riders who neither need nor want any hand-holding. They’re not stupid, and I’ll bet a year’s TR subscription that Plan Builder will keep improving but always be optional.

Yah, always optional.

Agreed, more experience riders should know more about what they need and don’t need while newer, less experienced riders need a bigger nudge in the right direction. Hence the big push toward plan builder.

They aren’t saying this is the best thing for every rider in every situation, but for the new rider who isn’t sure how to fit the plans and progressions into their available time it will answer most of their questions and put them on the correct path (or at least 90+% correct).
