Pedal Placement in relation to foot width

So I switched from shimano to speedplay pedals. although the surface area might be bigger, the speedplay contact area width is narrower.

I understand fore-aft adjustments and Q-Factor adjustments.

Once I determine my best placement, should I try to get it so the lollipop is in the center of my foot right and left? there are different spindle lengths so that shouldn’t be too hard.

for right now the lollipop is towards the inside of my foot. I don’t notice it that much when standing and pedaling. but when I am on one foot (say coming to a stop and I’m coasting on one foot or something) I can feel my ankle wants to flex laterally.

tyty

so for example I am running my cleat here with 53mm spindle. should I switch to a 56mm spindle and move my cleat closer to the middle of my foot?

Looks like your markings from the old cleats were more centered than the speed plays.

so the center is at the exact same spot (left/right)…it’s just the Shimano were wider.

(I wasn’t able to move it farther back…I might wind up buying an aftermarket extender…gonna try like this for a little bit..it’s still behind the ball of my foot)

so I was thinking if I could get the lollipop more to the middle of the foot maybe I should do that. only thing is I can’t move the baseplate so I wonder if it would even change much.

dang I think I figured out why I feel unstable on one foot.

this isn’t right, right?

I can’t get the baseplate completely flat no matter what combo of shims I use.
