NEWS: The Sufferfest Has Just Become "WAHOO SYSTM"

Thx for writing that up!

Well I suppose I am in the minority but I really enjoy Caley in the CT podcast. I agree that he has has strong back and white opinions but I find it entertaining. Actually I love the dynamic of all the different personalities they have on their podcast. Kind of feels like I am hanging out with a group of friends when listening. Kind of like the old days of the TR podcast where people just gelled really well

The calendar to me is the outlier - it really does look clunky and old fashioned in comparison to the TP and TR calendar. I keep on trying to drag and drop because it’s so much easier in the others. I think I could overlook/wait for development in the other areas but the calendar sticks out badly.

Nostalgia for sure… the early days of indoor cycling for me, back when I would buy Sufferfest videos and TR had a corresponding workout that you could overlay (or underlay?). I still have the videos, and will sometimes throw them on in the background during a TR workout.

thx as well.

I might try Systm. I liked SF for its engaging and motivating approach although quite quickly that wore off and I felt burning out being pushed to the limits all the time.

Now with the overall approach and plans including yoga, stretching, strength it could be different.

I only keep my subscription going for the yoga / strength stuff. Though I don’t use it nearly as often as I did (I have a pretty bedded in weights / body weight routine).

I’ve got a stack of Spinervals DVDs and every now and then I’ll throw one on. It’s kind of cool to have Coach Troy yell at me.

One of the early ones is Enter the Red Zone. When they hop off to do air squats, I like to hit the squat rack loaded up with 95lbs and do reps.

When I’m in a shit mood from work, it lets me smash the stress and anger out with stupid squats and threshold work.

Am I getting faster? Maybe. Maybe not. But it’s a nice change from having to read coach Chad’s text. Sorry Chad!

Would you recommend them as an addition to TR? I’m not interested in their cycling plans but seem to need some help getting myself to do low-barrier-of-entry strength training and I will just not go to the gym. Not for any good reason other than that extra commute is more motivation and time capital than I have to spend right now.

i use Apple Fitness+ instead, if you are on Apple enviroment, an option?

I’ve never used apple fitness+. Are the strength workouts good? I’ve used the site fitnessblender which has tons of stuff

You can use powermatch with resistance mode though, right? That’s what I do on the Nero smart rollers (because I have to shamefully admit to never have been able to complete a calibration on those). So I just do powermatch so that I see the power from the power meter and control the resistance on the trainer.

On second thought, I suppose I’m just superstitious since TR likely prioritizes power meters as a power source anyway. Oops.

yes, they are good, atm i do only Core workouts, but every day, only 5 or 10 minutes, but there are different things like Yoga, Strength, HIIT, Pilates and monthly costs are only 9,99 EUR or yearly 79,99 EUR:

But you need a Apple Watch and a iphone/tablet/Apple TV to watch the videos!

I got both. I might look into this! Thanks!

@swgregg how did this go mate?

Did you make that progression yourself? It seems like this is just a random workout library; not sure where to start!

EDIT: Never mind, I was trapped some way down the menus.

Event is next weekend Dewi but ended up predominantly using TrainerRoad. I did the 4DP test and there was a 15% discrepancy between my Kickr Core and Assioma Duo. I think the workouts in SYSTM work best when ERG mode is used - I don’t know about you mate but I can’t control the difference between 330W and 340W when I’m eyeballs out. 350W or 380W? Maybe, but some of the changes are a lot less subtle than that. Shame as apparently there’s zero appetite across at SYSTM HQ to develop a power match equivalent. One of those things where you don’t realise what you’ve got til it’s gone with TR
power match, I enjoy ERG mode where there’s big power changes rather than constantly changing gears.

If you have Assioma Duo’s and a Kickr Core it is relatively easyto set the Kickr Core to be controlled by the Assioma’s in the Wahoo App. Just go into the app and select control by ANT+ power meter, enter the ANT+ ID and you never have to use power match again.

Peter, correct me if I’m wrong but that doesn’t allow you to use ERG mode does it? If it doesn’t, it’s definitely lacking the same functionality as TR. I had a look in the SYSTM forums and there were some people asking for power match in the same vein as TR but the staff were replying saying that didn’t think it was necessary. The users didn’t seem too enamoured by the response.

ETA - apparently this feature had been on their plan at one point and they went to far as to beta test it, but then dropped it. I responded to a feedback form saying I think this is a massive oversight, as you don’t ride your trainer outdoors and use whatever tech and algorithms they use for power calculation.

I have been using this feature in Erg mode for quite some time so it definitely works. Use it on all training apps including SYSTM and Zwift. Hope this info helps you :+1:

@swgregg Ah right. Reason I was asking is I moved over to TR from Sufferfest/SYSTM last autumn, but have been checking out their training plans again recently. I’m sticking with TR for now in any event. Best of luck with the Sportive :+1:t2:
