Not really, if you had a Garmin Edge you can update the Varia firmware that way. USB is also an option (but not a necessity) as per your preference.

Got a promo email this morning for the new line of Roam3 and Bolt3. Notably they have the newer screen that the ace has and the Roam is now touch screen without the loss of the main 3 buttons.

Well, that is a controllable variable that you can change. I set min to Latest most of the time and solves the issue presented here (assuming matching terms & filters give appropriate results in the first place).
